By the way, the Switz/Spain game was the first I've really noticed how dreadfully devoid of atmosphere these games have been thanks to that fucking vuvuzela. You can't hear chants, you can't hear cheers, you can't hear shit. That, as much as anything, is why people are bored with the World Cup so far. Without atmosphere, it's difficult to give a flying fuck when the Swiss stack 9 dudes in their box and pray for a pile of dogshit goal to land in their laps.

It'll be ten times worse tonight, hopefully there's a silence when the Uruguayans put them in

the broadcaster here has filtered out some of the vuvuzela shit, so it's bearable.

I think the reason I noticed it with Spain had to do with the real sense of urgency to the game for the last 30 minutes. Spain were doing everything right except finishing, which is why I was so fucking fed up with Villa (and Torres when he came on). Anyway, in a typical WC match, you'd hear a roar of the crowd every time Spain knocked on the door, but instead I heard..........nothing. Apparently, they've added more and more audio filters to deaden the vuvuzela and I think it's only making matters worse. They're throwing the baby out with the bath water because even when a goal is scored, you can't tell by the crowd's reaction.

You still can't hear the crowd cheering and shit.

Yeah, you're right. Even at full blast, those things dominate everything.

Dunno why you can't but i can hear the crowd just fine (with every dangerous approach, every counterattack, etc). are those things really that strange around the world? here we've had them forever.

Those stupid things are the prime reason I'm not watching too many matches right now. It's not just that you can't hear the chants, I don't think a lot of people bother yelling and chanting when there's an idiot blowing some stupid horn behind you. Listen closely when someone scores, there's no huge amount of crowd noise on the background

Now that was atmosphere.

i thought that was the first game when the vuvuzelas seemed a lot quieter, and that you could really hear the crowd.

Exactly. That shit was fucking awesome. It was also the first of two times that Sepp Blatter and Nike made sure South Korea advanced in the tournament.

Yeah the Spain game was probably the first game where the horns have been less noticable. They do kill the atmosphere though, you can't here any chanting or cheering.

i've been supporting south africa but then it just occurred to me that the only south african i know currently, i met at a BBQ two weeks ago. she sat there and complained about the sauvignon blanc available in denver. i pictured her at home with 12 cats. go uruguay!!

It's just the fact it's the WORLD Cup, you should be able to share other peoples cultures of the fucking horns and singing etc, I mean fans singing/celebrating in UK is different to that of Italy/Spain etc.

Instead the South Africans have just thrust it upon themselves for the tournament to be about themselves and themselves only and it's just unfair on everyone else.

The England band are normally pretty noticable and loud but last Saturday you could barely hear them

Ive met few white ones on building sites, they all seemed to be misogynist racist christians, nothing like a bit of internet generalisation =). I was about 2 months from moving there when I was 8, my da got a contract but my ma talked him out of it, thank fuck i still have marabou stork nightmares about what could have been.
