Read some interesting things in blogs and such yesterday. Don Draper was entirely made up, everything that Dick Whitman wished he could be. Now that the lie is out that Don Draper is fake they basically said that Don can be who he really is.

He stoically lived in wordless fear, and that made him work harder (and better) than all those around him. But that period is over. The fear is gone. The unafraid person we now see might be the human he really is: Kind of lazy, distracted by cheap desires, and unable to reconcile the existential despair of excelling at a profession that's as unreal as the personality he occupied for most of his adult life.

.. really? she's much more a modern day (liberated) woman than betty. betty is fucked up beyond belief, and if that wasn't already obvious, their brief exchange in this first episode made it clear just how screwed up the rest of her life is going to be. and unfortunately, probably the lives of her kids to a degree too..

i just hate her immaturity. it's worse than betty, imo. like, she can't just tell don she wants to get down, she crawls on the ground in her underwear like a dog to get his attention? did you hear her lines during that scene? "you can't have it, you can't look, stop looking" or something along those lines.

like, wow, what a crazy bitch. i know she was trying to be seductive, but it was laughable. she acts like a teenager.

that's just my opinion of the character--actress does a great job tho. mad men has a ridiculously good cast.

also, i liked betty. she's a severely fucked up person who tries to get help but isn't taken seriously by anybody (even her therapist) and when someone finally does take her seriously (politician bro), of course she jumps on it. she is a bitch to don, but don deserves it. he sleeps around while his wife is pregnant... i mean, christ, what an asshole.

I agree. I think Weiner is following the Sopranos formula a little too closely. Draper's love life has the same potential to capsize this show that Tony's did for better than two seasons. With the exception of the jewish gal whose family owned the department store, every Draper mistress has been dull, annoying, or both.

This show is boring as hell.

completely agree. i think this show is not going to carry on though and i bet draper's arc begins his downfall this season. we are going to watch the demise of don draper and the show will end in a timely manner. hopefully.

i like to think of it as ambient television. it just sets a mood and then lets you watch nothing happen for a while. it's like staring into a fishtank.

yeah, one cannot misunderstimate the abundance of fucks I give about this show. It's surprising how little interest I have in it, given the number of hot chicks on display.

Yes. Because her character is not pregnant, the producers decided to create a storyline for her that acknowledged the weight without making her pregnant.

That was easily the worst episode in years and a sign of things to come, I think. The show should have ended after S4.

Yeah, resolved within a single episode. The worst sort of soap opera bullshit imaginable and very much reminiscent of the waning years of The Sopranos, which, let's be honest, was a really terrible show overall. 1 or 2 good seasons amidst 3 or 4 that were terrible.

i am glad they didn't drag that out though, that would be the other option.

I don't think it's going nowhere; it looks like it's going to "let's make January Jones a depressed fatass this season." Dudes, she's a housewife with borderline zero responsibilities. This is pretty much the most accurate direction the show can take.

I think I can finally admit to myself that this show is too slow to be worth while for me. I get pretty bored watching this.

does that consensus carry over to other internets areas? i don't feel this way (the criticisms, essentially what any of you are saying) about any of the new season thus far. have i just become easily entertained by faux drama?
