guess what

there were loads of so called "ambient" records out long before rdj-as all of you well know

its s nice listen

it holds up with said "prior" releases

here is a little industry secret-"new age"releases still sell steadily to boomers

he got over on the word ambient

its a trick and eno learned it first

the success of saw most likely financed all the other shit we love-but then wtf do i know?

not only did he learn it first, he invented it.

(edit: inb4shitstorm - not ambient, but the term)

this sounds like an airplane landing on a minefield

I still don't own this and am entirely unfamiliar with it. I've heard his unreleased tracks more than I have heard this album. It's nice knowing there's available Aphex Twin material out there that I still have yet to explore after all these years. Pretty sure I've heard most of it at some point or other, but chances are there are a few tracks on it that would still be entirely new to me.

Its still one of my favourites, along with the Orbs stuff, Howie B, Eno et all. Quite a lot of his records though do have very nice ambient moments its just that SAW 85 - 92 and SAW II immersed itself with the ambient themes. Some of the stuff he has been playing in some of the shows over the summer could easily form a basis for a SAW 3.

You're unfamiliar with 85-92 only or with both S.A.W.'s?

This would make a great Melodies from Mars cover...

"we r controlled by the most boring cunts imaginable" -rdj

nothing really unless you got into aphex before C2D, or if you are into aphex enough that you can identify his style in earlier works and understand how it is progressed into his more recent endeavors.

The technical and production side of it might sound a bit dated, but it's simply one of those die hard classics.

The first time I took acid I came down to this album, and after that night Ageispolis escpecially has been quite sacred to me.

foods in the tone of 'go to the fuckin store'

patayda chips

apple cracker thangies

carrots in brown paper bag

I think it might be his most consistent in terms of straight-up songwriting (keeping in mind I haven't heard everything he's done). Every other album has at least a few parts where focus is put more on crazy electro experimenting & atmosphere (which is just as good, but in it's own way), where as SAW85 for the most part feels like traditional songs that happen to be made with synths & drum machines.
