The aphex set does sound good... at least the videos that are for sure aphex. Some of the far back shots are Lory D/Max Durante I think, unless they reused the same visuals for both sets.

is rdj with 15peter20?

Mmmm... bugged me for ages because I thought I had it, then I realised it shares the same vocal sample as Breakage's 'Clarendon'. Would definitely like an ID for that tune, sounds like a stonker!

It's DJ Nut Nut - 'The Rumble (Mad Ragga John Mix)', I did have it after all but it was evading me. Bad boy drums on this beauty! I wonder where the vocals are sampled from originally, most likely a dub track methinks.

Sure, it was a link to this thread, but I thought it may be about Aphex in New York.

yaeah man speak for yourself i have loved amen since the first time i heard it in nwa's fuck the police and all the countless early ardcore

and never ever subscribed to the " oh thats played out/over " BS

Plenty of people bang on about being sick of the Amen break or hearing acid lines in tracks, personally I love them. Certainly there is a great deal of rubbish out there that utilise them and I don't expect everyone to share my enthusiasm because quite frankly I'm obsessed! However, most of the material I like that use either acid or Amens originates from a time when these sounds were still relatively fresh. There's not many new producers or producers from that era who are still making tracks now that I appreciate using these palettes. The reason why they are cherished so much to this day though is because some music with them in is incredible. I not saying new producers shouldn't use them, it's just hard to make something valid and fresh with them now after they've been used so much.

Anyhoo, the jungle track Aphex played at that rave is decent so why shouldn't people enjoy it. It came out in 1994 when people were probably much less sick of hearing Amen breaks. I wouldn't say it was an unknown producer either, DJ Nut Nut had a big hit with 'Special Dedication' and his releases weren't just confined to rare vinyl they featured on various CD compilations too, Mad Ragga John was a bit less well known though I guess.

Hi Solo Strike, no BF for me, although BLOC's looking likely. I'm sure I'll catch you on a dancefloor sometime sooon...!

I understand the "vintage" factor when it comes to older records and their sounds, and quite frankly i expected someone to respond as you did. It raises some interesting questions, if one is unaware of older amen tracks, does the amen sound different? Does how sick people are of a specific break during the time a track comes out that utilizes said break, affect this "validity" you speak of? How would you define a "valid" track. One that gets played during fashion model runway shows? Just curious.

Good music is good music, it is not defined by a drum break, a particular sound palette, a fashionable genre or scene. I could waffle more but I'd get caught in a tirade of waft.
