Forgive me if I've missed something, but what was the reasoning behind closing the alcohol/drugs topic? Is this also official watmm policy now?

i can understand not wanting "I'M SO HIGH RIGHT NOW" topics, but there's a fair bit to be aimlessly argued about. 2ce or 2ci?

I was wondering when you were going to rear your head in this topic...

There's really no need for dedicated topics about illicit drug use - the occasional mention is fine, but really, do we need to compare notes on how fucked up each other got? Save that stuff for private conversations or CHATMM, I guess.

I personally have no problems with anyone's personal choices in their lives, but let's keep that stuff personal. You wouldn't go to a public venue in real life and discuss such things where everyone can hear it, right? Same rules should apply here. I think people forget the similarities between a messageboard and basically standing up and speaking to a group of people in a public place.

*waits for the inevitable Kakapo anti-WATMM argument*

Uhh, you wouldn't, maybe. :P

Plus, honestly there's a level of anonymity that the internet provides. A more apt comparison would be going to a public place where no one knows you, in disguise, with a fake ID and talking about this stuff.

Do you feel the same about threads where people talk about good trips on acid or whatever? There's been quite a few of them in this forums time.

I'm not sure what that implies. There are things and people I like about watmm, there are things and people I don't. I express opinion, sometimes as vitriol, sometimes as reductio ad absurdum, or humour, and very occasionally as considered and intelligent discourse. But I'm not, nor have I ever been, anti-watmm, whatever that could possibly mean.

The internet, yes - WATMM, no, especially when you consider you're part of a community, and the more you post, the more you get to know people, the less anonymous (to a degree) you become. Even under the scenario you outlined above, I still highly doubt you'd go around discussing illicit drug use with groups of people listening intently, which is the real-life equivalent of a discussion thread where people are reading and replying.

The occasional mention is not a problem, it's threads dedicated to subjects like that - there's no need, and I feel it's outside the acceptable boundaries of general discussion.

Well, your stance on the whole LTM debacle gave me the impression you were against the way things were being run here, and that WATMM wasn't what you thought it should be. Perhaps 'anti-WATMM' isn't the right label I'm looking for...

I'm probably the cleanest person on this forum as far as drugs and alchohol are concerned. I find that the people I know that use drugs are a lot easier to get along with than the ones who don't do it as much and talk all day about it.

I don't use illicit drugs, but occasionally drink. Am i now not allowed to express this? .. Also even though i never use these drugs i did find the discussions on their use, somewhat enlightening.

I mean yeah this is a community, but given the threads that pop up, and the subjects generally being discussed, not to mention the genres of music in question, I expect that a lot of people posting are drunk and/or high. May as well be honest about it!

Also ^^ what he said. A good trip report is a good read no matter who you are, haha.

It would be more reasonable to call the pro LTM argument anti-watmm...

I'm a single issue campaigner, motivated by deep personal conviction. Please don't lump me in with a certain partisan group. One of the issues with the 'LTM debacle' (and pretty much all watmm melodrama) is that you see criticism as a personal attack (ok, it's often couched in those terms), which means that when people express genuine concerns or opinion there's a less than rational response.

I can just about understand the porn thing, don't agree with it, but your latest pronouncement is bordering on the bizarre. The maxim, "if you wouldn't say it in public, don't post it in GenBan" taken to its conclusion would kill the forum. In all seriousness the watmm narrative at the moment is reading as '2011: the year Joyrex found Jesus'.

Get rid of GenBaN.

I came here to talk about The Aphex Twin (like most people who joined).

If you get rid of GenBan and try to improve the Music section(subforums, new releases, etc) of the site it would be a much better place.

I have been begging for the download section to come back since i joined.

Maybe if you get rid genban it will be easier for you.

Boxing Day is a shitty little cunt troll.

But I think there shouldn't be a seperation of music discussion, subforums and banter. Reading the waybackmachine link for WATMM and seeing how the forum used to me reminds me how much better the community was. Or seemed to be.

Everyone was seemingly in on the same jokes and having a laugh.

Maybe it's just me, but it was a more fun time.
