we are actually debating in LTM whether LTM is worth having or not. for me it comes down to this:

i'm already over it, but i still think there are more sensible ways to achieve those goals than plopping something with the words "Lifetime Members Forum -- Private forum for select WATMM members" on the index. :P

you could say the same thing about the PM system. right now, hundreds of useful conversations are going on via private messages. ltm is the same thing, it's just organized as threads instead of PMs.

I spent 30 minutes the other day thinking about a better subtitle, but when it came down to it, the one Joyrex originally wrote seemed to be the most direct answer to "what's the LTM forum?".

In the past, the LTM forum wasn't even listed, in an attempt to avoid making anyone feel left out, but in the end, it just caused people to come up with insane conspiracy theories... And yeah, we fueled that by denying it existed, which didn't help. So, eventually we just gave up and added it to the list, in hopes of killing the drama.

At this point, even if we kill LTM completely (which would suck), people would still never believe us.

secrets fuel conspiracies and harbor resentment, listed or unlisted. no way for you guys to really get around that one. i suppose you'll just have to live with the dissenting voices.

main reason i come to watmm is for the new releases forum. ltm doesn't really affect me in any way, it's just the administrative nannying coupled with the idea that there should be a forum for "select members of WATMM" that strikes me as ridiculous. i won't be donating money again, fwiw... there aren't really any perks besides helping out the site (which is noble and all, but if i contributed to every website i used, i'd be in the hole)... and i've got my own site to pay for as well.

i think watmm has a certain amount of latent paranoia, and the ltm forum only feeds this, but what the hell..the craziness can be entertaining at times. lol sometimes its the reason i come here.

I for one welcome the new drug free watmm!

most of the drug talk is garbage but ill miss the occasional good discussion of psychedelics.. i mean boc is one of the featured artists..

Boxing Day, earlier today as was concerned that the level of antagonism yould been getting recently had made you leave the forum, as you hadnt been about in a while. I see now, that was a waste of thought on my part.

I don't care enough about what you guys think to make me leave.

Sometimes i get bored and leave for a while, then i come back because i have some time to kill.

Only because that's been used as an excuse before though. Even if was actually shut and re-opened, the fact is it was still there, that's why no one would believe it.

For me it's simple, I go where the culture is. Before watmm, I hung out on Loopz. There was a great community there. When Orbital albums started to go downhill, culminating with the group disbanding, I looked for greener pastures and came across watmm and zilty. Watmm seemed more my style so I stayed here. I respect what Joyrex and particularly Chaosmachine seem to have made of the site on the tech side (though the downloads are still missed), but I don't understand why Joyrex seems to periodically feel the need to crack down on the social side. There seems to be a rhythm to it; Joyrex makes a snap decision that pisses people off; Chaosmachine becomes more active and tries to calm things down, Fred and Lol Alzado start posting a bit more in a seeming attempt to cheer people up...eventually JR becomes more conciliatory, but the policies are often still in place, and the banned stay banned (though, to his credit, allowing Iain C back in was cool).

I don't really give a shit about the LTM shenanigans. I don't care if it sucked some of the life out of genban because the cool guys went off to their clubhouse - that's on them. I just want to hang out with a like-minded community. If that community seems more vibrant elsewhere, I'll probably explore it. I get enough politics in my workplace, I don't need it in my socializing too...

Also I think restricting nudity and drug talk will probably have a more chilling effect on the health of the community than some realize - it makes people wary about posting ms paints and crazy/bizarre stuff they find around the web.

holy shit man. well put.

none of this is necessary. this is a music forum that celebrates electronic music. i am here to discover and interact with people who have a similar perspective. it allows me to expand my knowledge of music and it entertains me. The forum is its own thing. Censoring certain content is understandable because it prevents exclusion. Whether that is age or just general ill nature towards disrespect.

As a user, I am not necessarily myself, in the sense that you don't know me personally and you don't need to know. Posting therefore should either be focused on providing entertainment or sharing/appreciating music and user's own creations. We all have equal opportunities here, where the line is drawn is for joyrex to decide. If the forum becomes something you dislike, then leave. If you still heavily enjoy it, but have minor problems with it, those problems can be suggested as advice, but beyond that it is unnecessary. Instead of doing what watmm does, we are getting involved with politics like the core of the site is being destroyed when really all of it is out of our control. Be respectful and get a grip with this place not being perfect. If watmms starts to seriously get lame, people will leave or stop posting and joyrex can re-evaluate his philosophy.
