Ok, I'll play.

Top Seven:

RDJ

The Pixies

Fugazi

of Montreal (before they went all trashy disco)

Guns N Roses

David Bowie (not totally cheating. I was born in 79 and Scary Monsters came out in 80)

Pink Floyd still counts

Honorable Mentions:

My Bloody Valentine (almost made my Top selects)

Metallica (were amazing there for a spell. you gotta admit)

Faith No More (almost made my Top list for the album Introduce Yourself alone)

Janes Addiction

High On Fire

Fela Kuti

Popol Vuh

Donovan

Squarepusher (up until Go Plastic)

Neil Young

Elliott Smith (he has been creeping up there lately, in a kinda postmortem way though)

1mouse on mars because they are postmodern and absurd. they are smart while being fun, very fun. they are cool

i didn't realise. everything about them fits my worldview. they transcend the electronic realm in many ways

they are great. they are both fun, technologically complex, and avant garde in nature. they have a sense of humor. also i have been listenin them so long so it is pretty fun to hear it. haha

i believe if I lived in 70s I would say CAN was my #1. since I live today I say MoM. I think Mouse on Mars could be called something like 'the CAN' or the 'Faust' or something of the 00s

haha

1.5 Squarepusher. he is really important to me. his music is ingenious. it is not always as good as some times but most of the time I consider it very special to me

2 My Bloody Valentine - I tripped balls to them and I thought about girls when I wasn't high. they have good guitars. honestly this band is really important 2 me

3. Chemical brothers - they are really important to me. I think they're the best when I grew up with them. it was great haha

4. John Zorn - he does some pretty crazy polystylstic music. honestly this is really important in my life. therefor i have to give him a spot!

5. Meat Beat Manifesto - he does sampling in a really good way. it is very important 2 me

edit:

6. Weezer. Rivers Cuomo is a sociopath of pop music. I think The Blue album was the very first album I listened to that was prominently a rock/lyrical/pop album. I thought I would include this here because I followed them for many years, only a year or two ago did I disown them fully. I was a strong supporter of Make Believe, The Red Album, and even Raditude to a certain extent.

I don't want to be friends but this band is amazing. The reason they are particularly amazing is not this:

that MBV sounds shockingly similar, almost to the point where one scratches their head saying, 'Why is Loveless considered so groundbreaking? Why does the Jesus and Mary Chain [shit] get so much credit when it essentially sounds like CT were the main influences. So much so that it nearly sounds like a ripoff and the whole thing is a sham'

but that their music is great, thoroughly thought out and creative melodically and imaginative. excellent

Guest Wall Bird

Do we count artists that began in our lifetime, or artists that may have been around before but released material during our lifetime? I'm gonna go with the former, just to narrow it down.

Ah fuck it. I can't do this. I'd have to think too long and hard about it. Not worth it. Sorry guys.

Chronological order ; I don't love all these artists / band at the same level but they all make/made something I musically love :

Pink Floyd

Radiohead (rarely listen to them now but they were a fuckin discovery several years ago)

Aphex Twin (music's son of god)

Squarepusher

Plaid

Autechre

BoC

Erik Satie

Ceephax

Coil

Chris Clark

Modeselektor (they made to few releases but there's something in their music I find mind-blowing. I just fear they go hype next but don't even know if they're gonna release any more)

Mr Bungle

the list wasn't exhaustive

In no particular order:

ET

ET's Brother

ET and ET'S Brother together as "Reptilian Zapruder"

Jefferson Starship

That's all I can think of, really.
