He's always been a bit silly with the "It's been X years!" question.

well they are kinda geeky. 'whats your favourite video game track!'

No we're not...

Oh wait. Yes we are. But that's no reason to hate us.

edit: And if you don't have a favourite video game track, you ain't lived

I'm fucking bored of Richard saying stuff like, "I've made a new album it's fucking great but it will never ever come out because i can't be arsed to master it" or "There's another 400 analord tracks but i'm gonna burn the master dats cos I don't give a shit" etc etc...

We've heard it all before. He really knows how to prolong his own myth by continually dangling non-existent musical carrots in front of his donkey fans. I wish he would just keep his gob shut until he has an album ready to go. I guess the hype surrounding even his weakest farts means it's inevitable he'll keep on playing us like this.

Yawn.

i dunno, Ae and BoC say stuff like this too ... i remember Ae said in an interview that they do somewhere between 100-200 completed tracks for each album, and then pick 9 or 10 that happen to flow together well. and of course BoC always talk about how they have vast amounts of unreleased stuff, that they work on hundreds of tracks at a time, etc

I heard that that was the case with Chiastic Slide, they had about ninety/hundred tracks for it.

I have no problem with men like RDJ exhibiting a few eccentricities.

There's no way that music like his could come from a mind that was wholly realistic and straight forward.

As a fan, you just have to roll with it.

I think it's calculating rather than a idiosyncratic quirk of personality. His business head is 100% straightforward, he knows how to generate cash like no other electronic artist.

thats true, he managed to sell out a $100 leather binder with his logo on it with 1 vinyl record inside , SMART fucking business man

I wouldn't say Aphex Twin has anything against videogame music

you'r wrong man: the binder was really expensive (of course it was!) but as (i thought a record label owner would know that) they didn't make much profits with it (i'm pretty sure, just trust me or ask any label owners about the cost of binders+free shiping in the whole world +180g ep + plastic sheets with afx logo) & most afx fans or electronica listeners dont even have turntables & just got the analord from the p&p networks.

the ones who made profits are rather the ebay sellers

Q: So we won't have to wait another five years for the next

Aphex album?

RDJ: "I just finished one but it probably won't be released.

Why? I can't be bothered to do any artwork."

Although he pretends not to, I think RDJ does feel some pressure that each major release he makes has to be a progression from the last one.

Think about his major releases in the last decade or so:

ICBYD, RDJ album, Drukqs, Analord

These are not half-arsed projects that he randomly throws together - To me it seems that he thinks very carefully (or someone thinks very carefully on his behalf) about what to put out next. As someone above pointed out, he's very good at keeping his own 'legendary' brand alive.

Hence its unlikely he'd hold back an album because he 'cant be arsed to do the artwork'. More likely, he doesn't feel its quite right. Or he's just lying outright.

RDJ interviewed in the French magazine "Trax" indicates to leave a new album within 1 year or 1 year and half, it indicates that there will be other exits on WARP!!

The big question is, is his next release (whenever that is) going to be on WARP, or Rephlex?

i think probably only you, richard and warp records would give a shit.

I care because it can put a decent fluctuation on the price for me. If it's on Rephlex, I'll prolly have to buy it for like $15 plus shipping and handling, but if it's released on Warp it should also be put onto Sire Records and easily found in a record store for a decent price under $15, and with no shipping and handling!

Check out my split with Tacomaniacx, Masterfully Racy, and Malevolent Alien Being: Progeny from Yuggoth Out now on Placenta Recordings!

i think it's like... i do a lot of tracks i never finish. or tracks i finish, but don't like that much, just a couple parts of. so, i tend to pinch the bits i like from the so-so tracks, not release them, and release a better track using the schtick...

basicly, they all probably do have a lot of unreleased tracks, but that doesn't mean they're the same quality as his released stuff. sometimes you doodle around in a notebook and get good ideas, and sometimes you get an actual drawing.

also, maybe sampling holds some back.
