Has anyone noticed a recent trend on SC of regular old fashioned spam replacing music spam. Like, before you'd have dudes who would start following 1000s of people in the space of a few hours in hopes at least some of them would return the favour, or even worse the ones that would comment on tons of songs with the exact same "hey man, this is a real good EEE-LEC-TRON-IC MU-ZIC. Check out my tracks!" quote.

But lately I've been getting followed by stuff like http://soundcloud.com/arleneg6fosac , where it's just a stock photo of a model & a sketchy link to what's probably a porn site. Spammers been getting lazier I reckon

Yes I've noticed that too. Some NSFW stuff occasionally too. It's really fucking annoying but what can ya do

fuck, i got hit up with one. it really pisses me off. but seriously, all you can do is mute them. but whats the point? they don't message. i wish there was a report button or a force unfollow button. but there seems to be a rash of those happening lately.

semi-related but not really question: who should i be following on SC? EKT - what *non-pros* on your follow list have you been consistently impressed by?

I ask because I'm slowly whittling my SC list down to like 10-20 people who put out supremely dank tracks or unique concepts on a regular basis where I'm actually excited to hear everything they put up. Better that than following a bajillion people & picking tracks out of the feed at random.

i only follow people who consistently put stuff out i like. not just one or two ok tracks, but a whole discog of amazing stuff. but to be totally honest i know how you feel. sometimes following too many people can be overwhelming. especially if they're people who put out a new song every couple of hours. so what i do is if someone releases a bunch of tracks ill just listen to one of them and get to the others some time later. you shouldn't feel obligated to comment or even just listen to everything someone puts out. its not like youre hurting anyones feelings. and if they do get upset about it then they aren't worth the follow in the first place.

Sorta sim'lar - I get a bit annoyed when people follow/comment about how cool your stuff is primarily in hopes you'll do the same for them (not just on SC, but on most personal media sharing websites). I'd much rather ten people were listening to my stuff that actually enjoyed it than a few hundred who were just trying to meet some quota

I rarely respond to people's comments on soundcloud, unless I have something to say other than "thanks!" I don't know if that seems rude or arrogant or something like that. My profile text goes something like "thanks for listening and all the kind comments", so it seems fair enough to me.

Am I being rude?

edit: I also see a lot of people following me, who are already following thousands of artists, and then if I don't follow them back, they remove me after a day or so. That stuff is funny.
