Autumn beers

DFH Palo Santo Marron is like a desert wine replacement for me; I might be the only one who really loves it, but I'm also a slut for some oak.

i tried palo santo marron a couple days ago at beer revolution in oakland. got to admit i wasn't that into it. i like high abv beers, but not the ones that go over the top with sweetness.

i tried a ton of new beers at that event, and this one was my favorite:

Heretic-Evil-Cousin-570x470.jpg

check out heretic if you can find them on tap somewhere, i was really impressed by this. great californian ipa with a luscious caramel base and a dank, resinous load of hop flavor.

old rasputin is probably my favorite cold weather beer. i have an old rasputin hoodie, a present from my girlfriend last christmas.

IMPERIAL STOUTS

Currently on rotation in the fridge:-

Both are highly recommended. Especially the Shepherd Neame.

Pumpking is the shit -- pumpkin bread in a beer.

Stone Russian Imperial Stout (not the anise-flavored one) is solid as well.

After we move on to "winter" beers in a few months, anyone want to do a pilgrimage to Santa Rosa, CA for the seasonal Pliny The Younger release?

Just got a bottle of this:

Great+Divide+Espresso+Oak+Aged+Yet.jpg

Also got a bottle of Arrogant Bastard, never had it before either.

Anybody know a decent way to store/re-seal a beer after opening it if I don't feel like drinking the whole bottle at once?

fffffuck I would love to. Not gonna happen, tho.

Currently got a 6 pack of the local winter warmer:

Feels a little inappropriate considering it's 60+ degrees here during the day, but it's delicious nonetheless.

just had the yeti last night and loved it. i use a metal bottle stopper:

does the trick.

my roommate also used to have a capper for brewing before we got a kegerator, so i could just recap it.

that's probably the better option, but both work just fine.

That's a tasty brew right there! I just sent their Belgian Style Yeti off to TheSun for a beer trade. I wouldn't recommend trying to reseal the beer. Once it's open, if you leave it in the bottle the additional head space will cause the CO2 to come out of solution and occupy that newly available space. The only thing you could do is put it in a smaller container to minimize head space, but it will still be flatter than it was.

word uptown, a day or two should be OK. I'm just a "let's drink this deliciousness now" type of guy :sup:

i feel ya on that, i only do it on the rare occasion that consuming another 10 oz of something 10% or higher would be downright un-strategic, or when the deliciousness would be lost to drunkenness anyway. generally, though, i pour the whole thing into a giant glass and drink it all at once. :sup:

I'd be up for a beer trade, unfortunately I live in MiddleofNowhere, South Dakota and the import section here is rather limited... However, there is a store back home in Minneapolis that specializes in obscure microbrews and specialty imports, when I go back for Thanksgiving I'm totally making a stop there and looking for some of these and taking the owner's reccomendations. Haven't been there in a while, they've got some damn good ones. The owner knows his shit on beer and usually picks out some great ones based on what you like.

Yes, Anchor Porter is ace. So is Bell's Kalamazoo Stout and Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter. And of course Belhaven Scottish Stout.

As for preserving beer for a day, we have an inexpensive 'wine pump' that works okay to take some of the air out.

I haven't had Brooklyn Chocolate Stout in years. Sort of forgot about it, since it's less readily available on the West Coast (at least the lower half). Good stuff.

The Edmund Fitzgerald is quite nice. Got a bottle of it from theSun :sup: I just picked up some Sierra Nevada Southern Hemisphere Harvest Ale
