I'm not sure if I've been tainted by nostalgia but I still haven't heard video game soundtracks that can top those I've heard on the Amiga:

flOw has a pretty nice soundtrack but I can't find it on Youtube so here's a LP video with a guy who sounds kinda like Ulillillia

There's pretty much a whole subgenre of Indie game soundtracks that consist of minimalist drones with most of the melodic elements coming from sound effects.

I'll throw my hat into that ring.

Not so much a soundtrack, but a great intro that oozes atmosphere for the game (F/A-18 Interceptor)

First off, thanks to the OP for mentioning my soundtrack - that's awesome!

For anyone who wants to hear it in full (or buy it, even) you can check it out here:

And here:

And even here:

There's been some amazing stuff mentioned in this thread, however no one has yet posted these pieces:

Also, big props to the poster to mention Soule's soundtrack set - I did NOT know about that fourth disc, but HOLY CRAP. Getting it now.

Holy shit, that's you? I never expected to find you on this very forum. Great job on the soundtrack!

And agreed, Skyrim's soundtrack is as atmospheric as they come. I've never thought I'd ever say or write this, but I really do enjoy getting on my horse and taking a night walk around the forest areas. Ahem.

And then getting fucking ripped apart by bears, sabre cats and fucking assassins.

The whole soundtrack (from Ganbare Goemon/Legend of the Mystical Ninja):

The perfect combination of jaunty traditional Japanese folk themes and the warming glow from the SNES' SPC700/DSP setup... blissful.

Thank you sir! My music gets around pretty well when it comes to soundtracking. In addition to my work on Eufloria I've done scoring work for the Discovery Channel and I've licensed out a bunch of my published works for use in various short films, web shows, and so on. The next "bigger" one is an independent film that will premiere at next year's Mutek festival which uses the track "Luke's Rusty Drum" from my 2007 album New Drugs For Nuclear Families Of The Seventies.

Nice! I'm really impressed. Perhaps you could PM me a little about how you managed to get into that kind of work? Making music for games and documentaries is my dream.

I wouldn't mind listening on that as well.

But now, soundtracks.

not sure if it's been mentioned but the first two Spyro games had amazing soundtracks, probably the best i've heard, which were surprisingly composed by the drummer from The Police.

Loved 'em. :ok:
