Britannia - equal measures of cheesy cliches & intrigue after 2 episodes, fk knows where its going but blame the edible

finished rewatching DS9 finally.. i cried

now starting BSG remake again for the first time in years. forgot how great this show is and how universally attractive the cast is (except tigh... ew, tigh)

The end of the fucking world _ kind of like a shitty music video produced by some annoying twats for an even shittier band stretched over 10 (thankfully short) episodes.

counterpart is almost kinda ok i guess? simmons and the setting are good and it doesn't feel too TV, but despite such a cool premise, it's just not exciting or engaging enough and peppered with things that just don't make sense. something really undercooked and underthought about the writing. discovering another fucking universe and then going on about the usual business the next day as if nothing happened just felt really off. a boss that should be some kind of dark and wise mastermind is just some spoiled yuppie. the flower thing was just too obvious. the idea of sending a message via repeatedly trying to kill the wife of the counterpart...stupid. dunno bout that biz but i'll stick for a couple more to see where it's going i guess.

Finished American Vandal over the weekend, funnier than I thought it was gonna be, and overall a good satire on those Making A Murder, crime forensic type shows.

Also, been going through Arrested Development again lately... I swear it gets better each time, the deeply layered running jokes, and subtle foreshadowings of jokes to come, it's pretty brilliant.

it's amazing, but especially this bit, don't think any other comedy has come close in that regard. really rewards rewatching as well, because it effectively retroactively inserts new jokes.

she's gotta have it - spike's lee own remake of his older film for tv. it's really quite striking how skillful and imaginative he is as a director and how deft and light his touch is. great pacing, editing, montages, framing, photography, music and other stylistic choices working in tandem really make for a fun, brisk and engaging watch even if i don't really care for the topic much. other high-end tv outings just look like a fucking chore when compared to this.

stranger things s02 sucked a bit and went to a totally different theme than i was expecting, demodogs, monsters, bleh... those emo moments with the emo electro songs playing, so cringeworthy...

currently watching bob's burgers last season and i don't know why i'm not feeling it as much as the previous seasons... feeling the same about the latest adventure time episodes...

the last man on earth still delivers some good laughs...

black mirror last season had some cool episodes...

bojack horseman s04

the trip to spain s03

tim and eric bedtime stories s02

I have a massive backlog of games, movies and series to catch up on, so... I started rewatching Babylon 5?!

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

I do this like once every 3 years lol

Britannia - finished & a tad gutted.

Zoe Wanamaker's hair (why?), the Stig of the Dump druid costume dept, Norse runes out of any chronological order or archaeological context, no focus on Ynys Mon, clumpy script.....all further eroded by an intriguing premise about pre-Christian beliefs & exactly how the Romans did so much damage here.

There are flourishes...the 2 Roman deserters chancing on a druid drug stash, or Julian Rhind-Tutt's character's lols while his wife is constantly fucked by a Gaul due to strict druidic orders, the eunuch son having to get his dismembered lad out for the Roman chief of staff & the real reason for the Roman leader's interest in druid magic, but its impossible to watch w/out referencing GoT's & i fkn loathe GoT's fantasy bs.

It tries really hard to be psychedelic, present a pre-christian world & its belief systems, the role of the Underworld & spells, but its like Harry Potter went back in time during a particularly arduous acid trip & got spooked.

another coded allusion to Brexit/10

Am enjoying Mindhunter so far, loving the demeanor and voice of the instigator of the "his name was Robert Paulson" chant from Fight Club guy (Holt McCallany) hope this helps him bag some roles in future stuff

not as great as you'd expect but still decent television. i kinda wish they gave a little background on some of the characters but i guess they wanted to focus on the meat and potatoes of the story: the fbi standoff. episode 2 kinda got better from what i thought was a messy 1st episode.

also, rory culkin looks like macaulay culkin after a 2 week drug binge at a flophouse in memphis.

^ def want to watch regardless, its such a bizarre incident. i remember as a kid it was one of the first things my folks couldn't explain easily to me, after the oklahoma city bombing there was no way to avoid it in the news. surreal seeing footage of tanks and a church compound on fire as an 8 year old.

curb your enthusiasm s09 (2017) - well, some of the situations he puts himself in look a bit contrived (i guess it's always been like that in the previous series) but the end result is always enjoyable, lots of laughs... preeeeyty cool comeback!!!!
