i remember back in the early 90s they had a contest on live 105 where they would play 2 new songs and have people vote on which one as better.

it was Detachable Penis VS Down in it by NIN. I think it was the first time i heard someone use the word techno. The DJ and one of the callers said Down in it was a techno song and the other was a rock song. weird

Also .. since when we care about what "most people" think , aren't we suppose to be like misfits or something like that.

Nah man, you're only Level 4, "that guy". I know this isn't terribly accurate, but level 6 is great!

what if you're all of those levels at the same time? Is there another circle you get to attain? Or do I have to grind out some more XP for that?

at least Techno makes sense, music made with technology. Dubstep as a blanket term is like it's dub and steppy?

The earliest dubstep releases date back to 1998 and were darker, more experimental, instrumental dub remixes of 2-step garage tracks attempting to incorporate the funky elements of breakbeat, or the dark elements of drum and bass into 2-step, which featured B-sides of single releases.

still a lot of the music called dubstep would be none of those things while anything called 'techno' uses some kind of tech

Back when I was a teenager if you said you liked techno (by which I meant acts like LFO) the answer would probably be something in the lines of "Aww, man.. Haddaway sucks!" Although sometimes you would get something like "Well, I listen only to techno that comes from DETROIT." as a response.

I don't know which one bothered me more, the ignorant asshole or the elitist asshole.

Last night, I was working with this dude who's a little bit younger than me and likes dubstep. He showed me spotify and said I could find find anything on it if I typed it in. Naturally, I put in Ceephax. When he heard it, he asked "oh, do you like the Aphex twins?" to which I replied "definitely. I'm a huge fan." he said "yeah. They're really cool. What's the name of that genre?" I said "idm?" he said "that's not it. It's something else." I was like "ok".

He then asked, "what's that other guy's name? Box cutter?" I said "Squarepusher?" He was like "yeah! So is that stuff like still alive?"

I said no.

I almost started a thread about it last night but I got home really late and was too tired to.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

My mother called me the other day and said "I heard on TV that kind of music you make is getting popular in the US. Do you think you will play more shows over here?". I was obviously confused as to what she was talking about and said "Wait what kind of music?" .. "Oh i can't remember..umm..digital, uh...no..Dub..somethi-" "NO NOT THAT, MOM". And then I hung up on her.
