Autechre Everything was "Techno", now it's "Dubstep"

Mine asked me about dubstep on Thanksgiving break (heard about it via a younger co-worker) so I told on my take of the whole thing. She generally didn't follow what I was talking about, until I was like "it's like if I was listening to Nirvana, but they never had a radio hit, and a year or two later Nickelback became big and everyone thought they were grunge." That made sense to her. She also collectively refers to hipsters, hot topic teen kids, indie college students, etc. as "coffee shop kids."

My mother is a bit weird when it comes to electronic music. Judging by her tape collection she was into some quality ambient music back in the 80s, & she has at times listened to stuff like Aphex/Squarepusher/The Orb, but once in a while she'll email me stuff like the dubstep remix of Pumped up Kicks.

Was driving some people home while Mr. Oizo's Flat Beat was playing in my car. They said it was dubstep.

I like the dubstep version of Pumped up Kicks better than the original....but it's mostly cause of that guy dancing...

haha, yeah same here. all their singles are catchy as fuck, but so overplayed its natural to hate them now
