I thought Pitchfork'd like this, too. I generally agree with their review, at least as it pertains to Iradelphic. The required scenester worship of Body Riddle and slagging of Totems Flare will never make sense to me.

Totems Flair is clearly some prime Clarkage. I think critics can really struggle for things to write about, so they invent this little career arc narrative for artists they've only perused through like once.

Sounds about right. Critics are... well they're hypercritical. It's their JOB to point out negative things, instead of letting the albums just be what they are and saying "hey! that album is what it is, and it does a good job at it."

Instead it's all... "oh this sounds like bibio and it's not clark/ish enough and blah blah blah I'm a professional music writer abouter my farts don't stink but when they do I taste them like theyre fine wine"

Rant end#

lol that'd be funny.

I don't ever base my music purchases off of a site like pitchfork, the reviews aren't entertaining or ever really even accurate! IMO.

"required scenester worship" of body riddle? because it's good?? that's bullshit. i figured pitchfork would've given this a low 5..

this new one is like totems flare, def way less packed w/awesome moments, but where it sounds incongruously put together. there are interesting moments but a lot of it feels haphazard or oddly-realized. the track following com touch feels great, and 'ghosted' is a highlight.

what the fuck is scenester worship?? who are you talking about? the internet? body riddle is super-polished, well-sequenced and expensive sounding.. the tracks are elaborate and fleshed out. it sounds professional, the large praise is warranted. i know only a few people who like, or are even aware of clark. is it not possible to like both albums, and also nitpick on them?

this morning i listened to body riddle directly followed by iradelphic and think they sit very well together.

iradelphic following turning dragon or totems flare would have been more of a juxtaposition but probably in a good way. imma gonna have to try it.

Pitchfork making reference to their self-coined 'maximalism' trend in every review of anything remotely electronica is the journalistic equivalent of autofellatio.

the vibe i got from some of his tracks from empty the bones, (especially the first track slightly slowed down on the flash site) left a huge impression on me that none of his other albums have ever made me feel. Not sure why exactly

meh.... I gave it a shot. I'm still giving it a shot, but no one seems really that invested. Let's hope this was just a side-step in an impressive career.

Maybe Clark got wind of the new Squarepusher album and decided it would be a wise move to stay clear of pure IDM  .

Gotta' say that when I heard this album was going to be less IDM more "Nu Warp" indie electronic I was like oh noes, but I actually really love the way it came out. And it's one of the few albums I can listen to in "mixed company". Side A is really upbeat and B is more downtempo / relaxed so I find myself listening to the album in halves at different times.

Just received the hard copy from Bleep.

Anyone who doesn't enjoy this record needs to put down the laptop and go outside.

Perhaps pick a blade of grass. Realize where the fuck you come from.

If you are still unsatisfied with life, continue to be a robot.

Realize this though, as you try to make music as good as or exactly like pre-Iradelphic Clark/Squarepusher/Aphex/Autechre, trying to emulate the cold, hard electronic feeling of their tunes, there is heart in these tunes. This is what will be lacking in your music if you don't appreciate your world/your existence/your life.

On a side note, I think Clark is trying to call out BoC to release a new record with 'Iradelphic'. The feeling of the record is so BoC to me. Not a copy or even an attempt to copy their sound, but just the spirit of BoC emanates from this record. Such amazing beauty captured by a known musical genius. CLArK for life!

I definitely don't dislike this, but the track sequencing somehow leaves me feeling a bit unfulfilled.

I agree with what ruiagnelo said re: the Pining. The way those three tracks are structured somehow saps the whole piece of energy and direction and any kind of emotional arc.

But I have no problem with the general direction of the album, and I like the more organic and acoustic emphasis, and the sound quality is great, and that one floydian synth solo is so unexpectedly brazen and over the top that it makes me want to give Clark a hug and a pat on the back. Still looking forward to what Clark puts out, and I can see this one fitting certain moods and circumstances very well, even if it's not destined to be a favorite.

I really like what I've heard, but then I dig the more melodic Clark over the crazy aggro stuff...

Bibio + Clark works pretty well for me
