Some strange part of me wonders if there's a part of us that is attracted to the lackthereof rdj news/releases for so long.. I think it almost makes us want his music even more, the more we wait. Maybe we're so used to this "depression" that it feeds us.

We're Aphex Twin depression addicts lol

I don't want it any more or less. Certainly doesn't make me depressed. I just visit this thread cause it's one of those long term active places that's always got the same question open, and as you age you tend from time to time to go over the same ground with friends, so it might as well have a single thread. bless it .. ;-]

For sure- I was mostly being goofy.. Doesn't make me depressed either, I like the fact that I can come to a central place to discuss/analyze/critique aphex twin's work with my fellow fans. And staying up on future release speculation is nothing but fun for me. (:

Just went to the Aphex discogs page and came to the realization that he has only released 5 albums (EPs, compilations and other aliases not included).

There as AV club feature about "the 5 album test" which is something Aphex Twin qualifies for in my opinion.

What about Rushup Edge, some of his best work?

5 albums is pretty good for just one alias innit? why not include the other aliases in this equation?

Including his dozen aliases, it totals to 7 albums (Surfing On Sine Waves and Rushup Edge)

Depends what we consider an album! I judge basically off of the length of the release...

I would say 6 under the Aphex moniker, AB5 is quite a long player. Then theres Surfing On Sine Waves, Rushup Edge, and I generally consider HAB and 26 Mixes as albums too. I suppose they're more compilations, but the remixes are pretty drastically different from the originals in most cases and thus I generally consider them Aphex's tracks...

Then theres Rushup Edge....

So quite a few long players or "Albums", not just 5...

Finally worked my way through all his works. Currently listening to Death Fuck. I'm a tad sad that I have worked my way through his discography, but there is lots of music out there still to heard.

Wha first break of Death Fuck.

Stop talking now

Just sit

Listen

.........../,.

Ok, Goodbye Rute playing now.

It was an interesting ride so far. The early works were awesome: murky, profound and voluptious(?), got a bit cocky around the turn of the millenium, but redeemed himself with the analord series and (though never officialy confirmed) rushup edge. I love to hear how the sound has matured to what it is, and am curious to see what is yet to come.

I always thought of the Ventolin EP's as an 'album'.

Not in any official capacity, and yeah it's a short album, but the tracks within have such a strong flavour of their own.

Although oddly enough, I tired of the title track a long time ago.

in the another man interview he says “I’ve got six completed. Two are very non-commercial, abstract, modular-synthesis, field recordings – those I finished four years ago. Another one is Melodies From Mars, which I redid about three years ago. There’s one of stuff I won’t go into; a comp of old tracks which is never really finished and always changing; and then one I’m working on now. There are also loads of tracks which don’t belong anywhere.”

could the two non-commercial ones be these?

another one of those tuss myspace pages (cat189) has a bunch of dates from 2006 in the tracks titles, which line up with the "four years ago" description in that 2010 interview

I think most of that tussticles one is actually Impakt here off watmm..

I donated some money for him to help save his cat a year or so ago and in exchange I got every song he's ever made and lots of those are in there. Including Acid Brother, Tuss Summer, etc.

i had a suprisingly decent bit of patter with him at the weekend, and he said he's busy working on new stuff, but taking his time to make sure that its actually unique and fucking mind blowing, instead of a talented reproduction of a style hes already mastered.
