As i said - application software - popularly referred to as programs. I heard them called programs from the Apple ][ all the way up through OS 8.6

I don't remember people saying - oh you've got to get that application Pro Tools/Photoshop...I dunno though, I've been high a lot since then so...lol

oh gotcha. no that makes sense and I agree.

I just had this argument at work though and the person kept saying how apple changed everything so they could say app instead of program because it's close to apple and I told them they were always applications on mac. I thought we were going to the same place but I know you know your shit so...carry on

yeah would be better to have iOS with windows instead of OS X with fullscreen.

what im referring to is lion having dodgy fullscreen with certain apps.

dodgy fullscreen refers to dragging an application (program?) across to second monitor and fullscreen it, and quicktime clunking it's way back to the first monitor in some clunky animation, and the second monitor being wasted on some grey cross hatch design. it's totally broken.

just installed the Messages beta on lion osx.

have laptop + iphone + ipad sitting next to each other my desk, sending messages with people who also have messages, and all 3 devices were live with message updates. it's actually pretty amazing.

this mountain lion update now has me excited. it has potential:)

dunno, the Messages thing is just an IM client. Nothing you couldn't do with Skype, only a less hideous GUI... amazing?

yeah the full screen mode is ass.

I still haven't upgraded my work Mac to Lion, I very nearly did at Christmas but bottled it due to being unsure of some Application compatibility. I wonder if 10.8 will break some more Applications?

Apple seems to be tweaking full screen mode in ML though.. if you have more than one screen and you go full screen, it doesn't exclusively use your main screen, but rather the screen which holds the window you're about to maximize. It's just as useless though as the other screen still gets the linen background

yeah, skype has been around for ever and has been functional and awesome.

but there's always been something bothersome about it's build that just bothers me. using it is a bother. asif there's something actually annoying about using it? dunno how to explain it, but i think there's a difference between a program which works but feels a bit annoying... and then having messaging functionality that actually feels as though it has been integrated into the os software. and further to that, the mobile os software.

yeah, alot of this stuff has been around for awhile, but it's the way in which they're integrating it into their software and devices that has potential to be exciting. i mean, it's exciting to me, just so long as they don't fuck it up with dumb mistakes.

I'm very happy with Lion, and perhaps it's just the apps I use, but I haven't had any issues with fullscreen apps - they all work great, and on my MBP 13", fullscreen is a godsend when you're working with a lot of content and there's not much screen real estate.

Are you using multiple displays hooked up to the same computer? It seems like that's what is causing the problem that people are complaining about here.

I also use http://www.irradiatedsoftware.com/cinch/ in addition to the lion desktop management. It basically adds the windows 7 functionality to toss windows on the border of the screen to become autoresized

The only application holding me back is QuarkXpress 7.5, I can't afford for it not to work properly when I'm up against deadlines. I am trying to make the switch to InDesign but when I've got to do something quickly I need the familiarity of Quark. Maybe when I get a breather I will upgrade.

LOL I've been in this boat for 4 years now. Keep meaning to make a clean break with Quark as it is a royal pain in many aspects, but I've been using it since the late 90s and am very comfortable with it.

oh snap, did you guys see the app icon for Mountain Lion? It's really slick, don't look unless you want to be surprised when it comes out.

LOL

Also, whenever there are rumors about MacBooks shipping with ARM chips, there is some kind of technical necessity of iOS mixing with OSX on a technical level. In a couple of years OSX and iOS will indeed be able to run on the same chipsets. That doesn't mean the GUI will be identical of course. But the discussion was awkward anyways.

Well, fuck.

edit: actually, I have no idea whether my MBP would be supported. It's a 15" 2.6 GHz Core 2 Duo, but it's late 2007. It looks like yes, but I don't know if there's an arbitrary date cut off somewhere.
