I would have guessed it would be to no greater extent than in real life - the purpose of facebook is vastly different than match.com or adultfriendfinder or whatever.

i thought there would be a lot more, simply because of how much control you have. why not try to make yourself look a little better?

but according to the research, i was wrong and people aren't that obsessed with their self-image :P

Cause people treat facebook like regular interaction - so there's some self-image management going on, but these are already people you know, so you don't need to impress as much. Also like I said, you can't big up yourself too much, cause friends will call you out.

fuck I bet your prof got a research grant for that too.

yeah, they said the same thing when books were becoming popular. "people will just want to sit inside all day! it's all the stimulation they need in there! argh!"

I never get that kind of arguments because you could basically justify anything with that.

fucking weird anti-technology amish mentality. i'll never understand it.

Please don't make me say what I didn't say. I'm obviously not "anti-technology" and I actually believe that a huge amount of positive things have been brought by the last century, that mentalities have evolved on a lot of points ; what I'm just saying is all that instant communication stuff is an illusion that we need to get rid of, it's just an obvious a paradox. In the absolute, instant communication means no communication at all. Also, on a psychological level, we need time to process everything we learn (education, culture, relationships, whatever).

Plus this consumerism of information is going along with a consumerism of everything that we could regret soon because consumerism burns resources and nothing stand still forever.

In my opinion, the reason we are having all these discussions is because there is an uneasiness. I think humanity itself is undergoing a shift. We have this new technology constantly beng created which is pointing us in a new direction but we are slightly lagging behind it in some senses. So you have people making points like but we need space and time to think, and comments like technology is stopping us from *thing that humans have always done traditionally*. Well there's bad news, we are never ever going back. We will evolve and become a totally new beast, posthuman, or wipe everyone out this century. Sounds all a bit OTT but that's how i see it. I'm sure plenty of others do too.

there is also a huge race to exploit every single new piece of tech for advertising and money making purposes. that is overwhelming.

Yeah I keep thinking about this video someone posted on here a while ago, although I doubt it will ever get that out of hand. I wonder a bit about the hunger/thirst/waste status bars and the necessity of directions on how to make a cup of tea idea. Will we at some point be so dependant on a GUI to do things that we will become physically unaware of our bodies and need a machine to remind us when we need to poo? Well, probably not... but I do wonder... It seems like with the ability to look up any information at any moment the storage portion of our brain is no longer needed in the same way. I remember reading of a study that inferred that the younger generations are now less able to retain informaton but more able to connect ideas together (I'm too lazy now to find it).

Thats Kurzweil's thing, we will eventually have to physically merge with machines just to keep up with technological innovation. It's an interesting idea and I think it's likely the case.

I do feel uncomfortable with it, but I don't think it can be stopped either.

No, no - it's all about the Tetsuo: Iron Man penis

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

we can't go back, that's true, but that doesn't mean we necessarily have to let things happen without thinking about them too much. Imagining a sci-fi network future is sexy, but in the end I absolutely don't believe in that "posthuman" thing (if I understand well you're talking about a humanity even more connected to machines, maybe even in a direct way ?) because once again all this technology burns a lot of resources and only profits to a very small amount of the world population. What is supposed to happen to the rest of the earth then ? Because I'm pretty sure there's not a pair of those AR eyeglasses for every of the 10 milliards we could be in some years.

That's not what has happened up until this point. 500 million smartphones were sold last year. I heard a fantastic quote recently (and it's true) that a person living in Kenya with a smartphone has access to more knowledge than president Clinton had 15 years ago. Do you think anyone with this kind of gloomy outlook that pervades western society now would have made that prediction 15 years ago?

Let me derail a little here.

All you guys talking how bulky they will be because of the processor etc, I'm sure these things will be bluetooth, and your smartphone will do all the processing duties, the glasses just displaying whatever shit your phone is giving them.

Please continue.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Have you seen how bulky the smart-watches are? They're powered by Android, and are mostly fed data from your smartphone, yet they're still rather large and bulky.

They're also the 'smallest' devices that run Android.

well let's see once that thing comes out.

"The heads up display (HUD) is only for one eye and on the side. It is not transparent nor does it have dual 3D configurations, as previously speculated."

just solve 3d-tracking by not doing it. lulz.

It's all a matter of time anyway. The argument is a pointless one because all you need to do is look at an iphone and realise it's about 8 times as powerful as the laptop you were using 8 years ago and about a 16th the size.

My 7 year old laptop begs to differ at least in terms of processing power.

to be fair though, Rambo was talking about the processing power in an iPhone, which doesn't use the tegra chipset at all.
