I am getting close to breaking down and signing up for facebook

Recommended Posts

i just deleted mine a few weeks ago. my problem with it was that i'd originally signed up in 2005 as a college freshman, so my profile was full of outdated, irrelevant pictures, posts, and people. i figured i didn't want somebody's first impression of me to be based on seven-year-old photos. also i had too many "friends" who i never knew very well or gave a shit about, and they posted the most inane crap.

however i don't think there's anything wrong with facebook, and it was a convenient way for me to keep in touch/share music with a few friends who were hard to contact otherwise.

Jules am I correct in saying you have a new born? If so then Facbook would be perhaps good, so all your family can keep up to date with what's going on.

I see most of my friends sociably anyway, so we go to the pub and that's much more fun than Facbook, and all my other acquaintances are on here. So the whole FB thing is redundant for me. Plus I quite like being the only one (well me and my mate mike) who refuse to have anything to do with it, rebels that we are.

yea, little dude is a year already. the wife handles all that on her facebook. i am not sure i like all those pics of my little man online but whatever.

It appears the powers that be at facebook just removed a link from a private message between myself and 3 friends, which makes me more than a little creeped out. So just know that your private messages are not actually private on facebook... (I don't actually know what the video was, only that it was first vid on the internet that ever managed to gross out my friend, So whatever it was, it was horrible and probably shouldn't be seen by anyone... but regardless it's completely fucked up that facebook is monitoring private messages.)

Facebook is useful if you're constantly having to make plans with groups of people. I primarily use it for that, Scrabble, and music promo. But given the above scenario I'm debating jumping ship.

Yeah this really is a giant red flag. Even WATMM is beginning to creep me out lately.

You know, while that's pretty suspicious, I wouldn't necessarily attribute something to Facebook censorship that can easily be attributed to Facebook glitchiness. I've had whole conversations disappear followed by ghost notifications of updates to said missing thread and then reappearance of said thread months/years later.

The rest of the message didn't disappear, just the link. Seems more likely to me that it was a censorship thing.

i'm not comfortable with that either and luckily my mrs agrees...

but most of her friends with kids seem to use fb solely to show off their kids every single move.

actually i've posted a couple of pics of my daughter on here so i'm a big stinking hypocrite.

the greatest thing about facebook is that it utterly destroyed myspace 5 months after rupert murdoch wasted 550 million dollars on it.

merely the fact that you can pretty much lose 550 million dollars and still be disgustingly rich makes me pretty upset.

i really like facebook though. i have alot of people round this city who arent close friends, but i still like to hang out with, and facebook makes it extremely easy to find out what people where people are partying it.
