$8,676,610 can buy a lot of toilets, clean water and sanitation...surely a lack of those has killed more Ugandans lately than this guy

So they'll kill Kony, but then what? It's like cutting the head off a hydra..

Jesus fucking wept nobody reads.

Invisible Children's financials are fully available on their website, they've been subjected to external auditing and are working to restore their 4 star rating at Charity Navigator. They spend money on things like that as well as building schools.

the two sides of this argument/support structure both have revealed incredibly disturbing elements within our societies. On one hand, Kony is a brutal dictator, and any action against him in this sense could be considered "good". But like the wigga said earlier, it didn't start with Kony, and it won't end with Kony. But how do we address the root of the problems?

Yes, you're right (I was kind of asking for that answer). When I write something as self righteous as I did, I should lead by a better example.

Was hoping someone would challenge that point :emotawesomepm9: cheers for clearing that up for me.

i love when I try to encourage activism I'm the bad guy for not engaging in it myself. What have you done? Should we make this a pissing contest?

Just for argument's sake, I'm not actively protesting anything involving Africa except historical revisionism, which I am very vocal about. I am also in a voter watchdog group in my county, which was successful in recalling a council member who had gone against his platform. Im in the very slow process of writing articles for a number of activist organizations/journals.

But I'm not over in Africa physically doing good for people, so on that point, you are absolutely right. Everyone ignore my advice; its wrong.

My brother posted this today: "Charity should be simple. Charity should be honest. Charity should be personal not pompous."

Well, you want to help Africa? Build schools, and make the music industry stop the gangsta rap shit. Thats pretty much it.

Or make money doing gangsta rap shit and donate some it to relief operations in Africa...

I had no idea he was doing any of this stuff until recently. Although he's doing interviews and PR shit, he seems to be fairly low-key about it. I'll just say it, in all sincerity, good for him.

Off course its positive, but its not structured so in long term its useless. And I'm pretty sure it isnt 100% honest.

"Im pretty sure" =/= "I'm sure and absolutely correct"

Well it happens that I'm not naive. Usually when I'm cynical about something,I'm right. Sometimes I'm wrong, but in this case if its honest or not, its still a drop in the ocean as he doesnt real know how what he's doing. Giving food isnt productive at all.

Have you never heard of malthus?

What I said is valid unless we're talkin about human life value and human rights. Then it sounds harsh but i'm being objective here.

you aren't being objective at all. Unless you are a fatalist? In which case, why all the anti-American sentiment, why all the criticism?

This is exactly the detached intellectualism under the pretense of being "objective" that I find so abhorrent.

I'm not being objective? How come? I said that extending their survival wont develop the country, only schooling and industry wiill.

That's incredibly circular logic. What is the purpose of schooling and industry if not to extend the potential for survival?

Develop the communities as human beings to put them at the same level as the rest of the worlds nations to finally have a fair system.

I'm against imperialism in any form, and imperialism is what has been destroying Africa for the last centuries. Nowdays its the chinese Imperialism, almost any country in Africa has debts with them because the chinese never give up anything for free. This campaign encourages an american invasion at the request of people alll around the world who think they're RIGHT. Until a country's governement expresses its will to be helped by the white house, its a violation of sovereignty. In some cases, a government doesnt express the peoples will, as in a opressive dictatorship, but in uganda the case is very ambiguous and nobody knows if "democracy" will follow its course naturally afterwards without the American (or others) manipulation/ ntervention.
