Aphex Twin Aphex Twin Live, Why?

Okey, this has already been discussed but I can't stop thinking about it sometimes and it bothers me

Why have Aphex Twin touring around the world this last years without any new release?

Someone said: "he wants to promote himself before he release something new". But how long would that promotion be? 20 years?

1. The Money? - Yeah right so he need money so bad to buy a new synth, He have/could have all the synthesizers in the world!! And he does not live luxury life.

2. The rush! - Yeah after 20 years of touring, still a rush?

3. Famousy? - the guy would not even be photographed!

what do you mean he wouldn't even be photographed? He's quite famous.

He has no other vocation, try sitting around doing nothing for 5 years, you'll go mental. This happens a lot with footballers, when they retired depression kicks in because they don't know anything else, they can't survive in this world. I reckon something similar is happening here with the aphex, all he knows is making music, he's probably just bored and depressed.

He's not really touring non stop. I guess he enjoys it and doesn't mind the odd paycheck.

If I was you I wouldn't spend too much time working it out. Most artists tour a lot, it's a bit different for IDM, but lately Aphex is touring hard, and that's good too see! Maybe he just want's some overtime and a bit of extra cash, as we all do in our day to day lives. He's also been road testing some new tracks, and the reaction is of the highest praise, so that gives him confidence in his new material etc etc.

I do remember someone saying once he has stopped touring, he will rest and release new music......

do 11 gigs, minus expenses, buy a house, more visual kits for future sets.

I can imagine that the analords and tuss did not sell in ultra extended amounts compared to his former releases so he just started touring instead of releasing which was overdue as he did not tour a lot before and everybody tours these days as thats where you make the money instead of selling music. so yeah there might be some release but its not so important as he lives from touring now and future releases will profit from that too

you say that as if "touring as a way of making money" is only a recent phenomenon...

Its a way of making money in a time where records are not selling anymore when everybody can have everything on spotify. Did you notice all these very old bands starting to tour again in recent years? its no coincidence as their revenues die away like ice in the sun and new listeners pirate everything or listen to streams.

there is a whole new generation with no real new indie culture or did you spot a new aphex twin in recent years? there is none as its not worth it when nobody pays you for it

At the same time, most of the fans that are excited about his recent touring that went to the shows etc would likely buy a legit copy of a new album.

Artists don't and haven't ever (as far as I know) tour just for the sake of touring + using that as their sole source of revenue. It has always been to get money, show off new material, promote a recently released album, or build awareness before they drop a new album.

Touring will not be his sole source of revenue. Guaranteed.
