I was going to say the same thing. Watermelon and milk? It'd be all watery and the milk fats would start separating if there was any acidity etc.

blech =(

Guys, the best fruit+milk combo is watermelon milk. Pineapple ain't got shit on watermelon when it comes to milk. 'Nuff said.

that sounds fucking disgusting tbh

Nah, you gotta try it. It's straight up ace shit. They sell it at stands in the night markets here in Taiwan for about 50 pence if my calculations are correct.

I like to grind my front teeth on the fibrous hairy skin bits. Strawberries are nice in the same way, leaving little crunchy seeds in a smoothie to chew on.

I'll give pineapple credit.. it's the better pairing with coconut milk. Perhaps both being tropical foods it was inevitable.

your self-improvement thing is great but you're getting into weirdo hippie territory. do you just eat a banana (not peel it)? or oranges... if you start doing it with pineapples you're fully gone.

i've never understood why people who are obsessed with nutrients want to consume the parts of fruit that contain little to no nutrients and are disgusting. you've clearly done your research though and i might be wrong about all that.

So, all this talk about Durian, is there a place online where I can buy some? I live in the UK, and I doubt there are any places nearby to buy the stuff physically. Maybe there's a decent website that sells all these exotic fruits...

I've never tried Durian before, but it seems like something I'd love to try.

Didnt read whole thread.

Best fruit tastes to me are

i love grilled pineapple. oh man that shit is heavenly.

i make a pork and pineapple taco that is one of my favorite recipes ever.

recipe courtesy of rick bayless. i highly highly recommend it.

INGREDIENTS

A 3 1/2-ounce package achiote paste

3 canned chipotle chiles en adobo, plus 4 tablespoons of the canning sauce

1/4 cup vegetable or olive oil, plus a little more for the onion and pineapple

1 1/2 pounds thin-sliced pork shoulder (1/4-inch-thick slices are ideal—the kind Mexican butchers sell for making tacos al pastor)

1 medium red onion, sliced 1/4- inch thick

Salt

1/4 of a medium pineapple, sliced 1/4-inch-thick rounds

20 warm corn tortillas

About 1 1/2 cups raw tomatillo salsa

DIRECTIONS

1. Marinate the meat. In a blender, combine the achiote paste, chiles, canning sauce, oil and 3/4 cup water. Blend until smooth. Use 1/3 of the marinade to smear over both sides of each piece of meat (refrigerate the rest of the marinade to use on other meat or fish). Cover and refrigerate for at least an hour.

2. Grill and serve. Light a charcoal fire and let the coals burn until covered with gray ash but still very hot; bank the coals to one side and set the grill grate in place. Or, heat one side of a gas grill to high. Brush both sides of the onions slices with oil and sprinkle with salt. Lay in a single layer on the hot side of the grill. When richly browned, usually just about a minute, flip and brown the other side; move to the cool side of the grill to finish softening to grilled-onion sweetness. Oil and grill the pineapple in the same way. Finally, in batches, grill the meat: it’ll take about a minute per side as well. As the meat is done, transfer it to a cutting board and chop it up (between 1/4- and 1/2-inch pieces). Scoop into a skillet and set over the grill to keep the meat warm. Chop the onion and pineapple into small pieces as well, add them to the skillet and toss everything together. Taste and season with salt, usually about 1/2 teaspoon. Serve with the tortillas and salsa for your guests to make soft tacos.

gonna try this at the weekend. cheers

how did you make out?

ask at the asian shops

In regards to the fruit and milk discussion. Strawberries with milk poured over them are fantastic. Add a spoonful of sugar if they aren't organic IMO.

Oh yeah. Throw some blueberries in there too. Good shit.

i did a weird job that was supposed to be catering but was actually just putting a fruit bowl out for people (great job).. i didn't bring any food, so i put a load of fruit in a bowl (blueberries, grapes, raspberries.. chopped banana, er.. forgot what else) and poured milk over it. it was fucking shit... would rather just eat fruit and drink a glass of milk, if anything.

edit: one day there was pineapple delivered and i was there, slicing it up.. enjoying the opportunity to do something more than putting things in a bowl, and a guy

water-cooler.jpg

was telling someone how pineapple refreshes your mind (i agree), but also that he went on holiday somewhere.. hawaii maybe.. and said "it was great, they sliced the pineapple up in front of you!!".. i was slicing the pineapple up in front of him! really, that guy has been spoiled when it comes to having pineapple sliced up in front of him

I now have two pineapples ($2 ea) and I have to figure out what to do with them. Tonight I will be making sweet and sour sauce, but that's only like a quarter of a pineapple.

Make a ham the next night... cook up the pineapple with a little brown sugar and some cinnamon. Goes good over ham!

Also pineapple spareribs? I guess pretty much any pork..

That sounds really really really good .... Is it a pickle infused with pineapple and jalapeno juices? Spicy?

i'd imagine it's pickled pineapple and jalapeno (like, a chutney), rather than pickles/gherkins in pineapple juice (?? .. also not sure if you're even suggesting that Steve)

funnily enough, on The Apprentice last week, they called their pineapple chutney/pickle "Infusion".

OK - that's not very interesting

Edited by tauboo

no they are actual pickles pickled in a brine with pineapples and jalapeno. they are spicy and sweet. they are amazing, for real. he also has smoked pickles, blueberry-lemonade pickles, tobasco pickles, etc.

sounds amazing Jules. I wish my city had a "pickle guy". Maybe there is one I just haven't looked hard enough =p

Dude, you are hilarious. Nothing's going to top this post today. despite all the fussin and fighting over here at WATMM, this is why I stay.

Goodnight, pinaeapple enthusiasts.

I just ate an orange, it was amazing. I feel they are very underappreciated because of how common they are, but seriously, oranges for the win.

A good orange is absolutely excellent. there is no juicier a fruit, no matter what anyone says.

also, blood oranges. not only are they delicious as is, but they make the absolute best orange juice. In fact, if you're low on funds, you can make normal orange juice from concentrate and squeeze a few blood oranges in it, and it tastes almost as good.
