Regardless of my dogged sticking to the facts here (and yes, they are facts - he mentioned a deadline, simple as that), I am only doing so in the interests of factual history. I don't hate mdg at all. I just think he should've known better than to give even an inkling of incoming Boards of Canada material. As the band said: the internet is evil.

Don't know about you but entering the BoC subforum nowadays is like creeping into a secret garden or a quiet castle via creaky. cobwebbed, rusty iron gates. Even the owls over the hills and far away, blink and look in the direction of the noise and all the creatures of the forest shudder to a stop and then dart back to their burrows.

Well I wish the Sandisons would have a gut full of tequila and decide to something. I mean what the fuck is actually going on ffs. Oh sorry its some sort of masterplan...ah I geddit. Yeah that's it we are like in an episode of fucking Lost. Nobody actually has a fucking clue what going on. And maybe the end result will be a massive pile of fucking horseshit? More than likely. Though being honest thats not true because I want it to be the greatest thing (apart from Jesus) to be concieved.

So why don't mdg, Beckett, and Team Sandison drink a fucking bucket of tequila, and pull your god damn finger out?

Because besides any imaginary deadlines concocted by mdg and fans, there hasn't been an official "We're releasing the new Boards of Canada album, "_______ __ ______ ___" on "xx/xx/xxxx"?

Can't say they're delaying anything they haven't said they would be releasing, can we?

corrected for accuracies sake.

You're not accurate either - mdg has never given a specific date.

I am accurate

edit for clarification: you said 'imaginary deadlines'.... saying it's coming in 2010 sounds like a deadline to me, uttered by mdg

Stating a year's window for a release date is hardly a deadline, nor is it accurate - at the time mdg said that, it's reasonable to assume that was the plan, but as we all know, those plans, for whatever reasons, changed. I could see you having a point if he said "October 2010 for certain" or something like that, which he did not. Try again.

Why are you trying to deflect blame away from mdg here? Are you actually, honestly and truthfully, saying that mdg is in no way responsible for the expectations (no matter how justified) that the fans had for an album release? If so, you are being intentionally ignorant. As I quoted, mdg had in fact given a deadline (definition there since you seem to be ignoring that too) which, regardless of it's (the deadline's) accuracy, had set expectations in certain fans. This is because people like yourself, and the admins of twoism.org have imbued mdg with the status of an informal representative. As such, timescales he says absolutely will be expected by the fans, and if said timescales are exceeded, then people will absolutely have had their expectations not met. Whether you think the fans were right to have such expectations is irrelevant, because as I have already mentioned - mdg has been imbued with a status that gives his words authoritative status.

must be hard for mdg if everything you said even in a chat will be stored in a wiki until the end of time. I would not like to be him. Even if had access to inside BoC knowledge by that

I can appreciate mdg's difficult position, however considering the cult-like following surrounding the band (due to their own doing), the best course of action would've been to simply have not said anything.

And people wonder why he doesn't post/say more...

I don't wonder why he doesn't post anymore, it's plainly obvious why he doesn't post here anymore. And I don't blame him for not posting here anymore and in fact encourage the holding back of information pertinent to 'impending' releases. He has been, is, and likely always will be in a very difficult position whenever he posts information wherever he may post it regarding the band. But as I said earlier, especially with something like an 'impending' release, it was very obviously better to just keep quiet.

Here's the bit you're not thinking about - if at the time the plan was to get an album out in 20xx, and for reasons unknown to us (and frankly none of our business), they decide to delay things, would it have made things better had mdg come out and said "sorry everyone, but due to certain things, the BoC album intended to come out this year isn't, and we don't have a firm idea of when it will". While some people would prefer that and be fine with it, there would be a segment who would wail and gnash their teeth at that kind of info, probably moreso than just not saying anything.

Really, it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation - and I think it would be helpful to clarify that mdg is a friend of the band, and one of a few people that has assisted Boards of Canada with handling their online presence. He's not sitting around planning things with Mike and Marcus, so any info he's privy to that he feels he can share with us, he does - however, some of this has regrettably come back to bite him, as some fans look to him as the public "face" of Boards of Canada, and the only outlet for their frustration at the numerous delays and lack of information.

Nah, I think folks would appreciate an announcement if things have gotten delayed. Right now it's all kind of in limbo. Are they even alive? Have they stopped releasing new music? What's going on? The best course of action would have either to shut up completely of they are going that way. But since MDG already said a new album was on the way, and it has yet to materialize then some sort of follow up would be appreciated.

On the contrary I am absolutely thinking about that, and I still stick by my opinion that the whole subject should've been entirely avoided by mdg. I understand he had benign intentions, but having said a few words on it has cost him his credibility amongst many.

Indeed, as you rightly point out - it is a 'fucked either way' scenario, which again (I'm sounding like a broken record here) could've been so much easier and simpler if nothing had been said in the first place.

I mostly agree with you here, but would it really make that much of a difference? Even if an update had been given as soon as it was obvious the release wasn't happening in 2010, mdg would still have gotten it in the ear: "oh pub talk, again" etc etc etc. If an update was given now, I think the rolling lols would break records - it'd be that impotent of a statement.

I think the last 'statement' made on Facebook makes keltoi's lol absolutely justified. And to be frank, such a terse comment made by whoever it was that made it (I assume it to be mdg, but that's my own personal opinion that may be wrong) was definitely not a good thing to do, and I'm sure I'm not the only one aligning with that opinion.

not wanting to be a cock but osc get over it mate!

so mdg said something in 2010 that didn't happen in the end. that was 2 years ago man! it's 2012 now.

chillax, bro :)

i think the sooner everyone stops bitching and moaning about BoC and mdg, the sooner a record will come out and we can all start again afresh in our BoC fanboyisms and fandom (maybe).

i hope all this bollocks goes away soon.

i read it all, dude... which is why i had to say "get over it".

peace

It's funny to already know all of this bickering will come to an end when the new album drops, but then of course the hatred will be all about the actual album itself not living up to the hype etc. The neverending story... no wonder MDG keeps silent as there's absolutely no means of doing it all right for everyone.

They're waiting for every cell in their bodies to be replaced before getting new music out there.

BoC does live from all they money they got for their last releases somewhere In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country. When it runs low one day they sit down for 2 month record whatever comes up and release it.

But where's THE DROP? The drop, man, the drop!

I can't wait for the album to drop. When it drops, shit will be dope. I'll call it "the dope drop". Then I'll bitch about the actual album that drops. Because it won't have any the drops in it. And then I'll ask again, "But where's the drop?"

I was referring to your implication that their Facebook (regardless of how infrequently it's updated) page wasn't "official" (e.g.: managed by the band and associates of the band), not how anemic their online presence is. Sorry for the confusion.
