"Cfern" is a cold, dank room with giant millipides and maggots squirming around while the guy from "motorcycle.jpg" sits on a stool staring in to space.

"Nine" is a cool blue sky filled with fantastical clouds.

i think untilted weilds some very cool imaging to accompany it. itd me something like gantz graf, very concise yet chaotic. every sound & rythme would have a visual input, creating a cacophony of imagry. here are some coolio flash enviroments.

Electro Plastique

Relations Enviroment

Version B

lots more to come

I always imagined Flutter as a fly rapidly slamming into a lightbulb because of the title and how the percussion sounds

When I visualize this stuff it's usually rather amorphous, visual chromaticisms, colors, shades, the shapes are always pretty vague

yeah, i agree with this. the shapes imagined are usually detailed or given dimension by the sounds occuring in the track. it's a shifting architecture, not as much colorful as it is skeletal and "churning." and then the melodies as sort of colour swaths and vapour tendrils

I always found Autechre a lot more "crisp" in terms of imagery. "Dael" seems... pointy. Like this jumbled mass of pointy things that somehow acheives locomotion.

I dunno, I visualize music as machinery a lot, but that's usually more just the rhythm. The harmonic content gives it its texture. Autechre is very careful with their harmonic content. I usually get strong mechanistic (rhythmic) imagery from their stuff. As I said once, it's comparable to hearing an engineering diagram.

Of note: I still need to listen to some of their major albums...

  • 3 years later...

Parheric Triangle is two weary farmer type guys taking punches at each other outside a spooky barn, backdrop of a warm orange and red sky with dark closing in above. And a fly constantly buzzing. The punches gradually get more and more disorganized and violent, squelching together around in the mud. No one emerges victorious.

Lentic Cathacresis is a whirring ice cream making machine left unattended for so long it's trying to kick start itself and get going, but finally gives up and keeps layering upon layers of strawberry ice cream on top on one another (that lush 'lablablablabalabblabalabalabalabalab' soft layering sound it seems to get stuck in. Sassy stuff. My mind got thinkin in these tracks after reading a review where someone describes the sensation of Autechre 'as like having strawberry ice cream in your nostrils' I really fell for that, what an awesome description :D

these are the ones that stand out, good old Confield.

foods in the tone of 'go to the fuckin store'

patayda chips

apple cracker thangies

carrots in brown paper bag

This is a new low. Rubin Farr might as well start posting in this forum. This is as uncool as it gets. Fucking stale.

Fucked up when you think how vibrant and fresh this style of music was in the late 90's. Have a read of this thread and see where it is now.

Industrial rain hitting the rubber floors of an ice rink walkway layered with the ambience of a windswept prairie ruled by animals in mounds surrounded by a thinly painted wall made of rigid plastics.
