its odd for me to say this, but eugene does have a point. The time in which the crimes of ignorance and persecution are committed is irrelevant in the ethical scheme of things, and every other major organization (including Buddhism, yes, Buddhism) has at horrible atrocities committed in their names. People just jump on Scientology because of its relatively new introduction into society, and its rather shallow attempts at forming a money making psuedo-science evangelism.

 

All of these acts are despicable, so any negative attention thrown their way is better than nothing, but yes, there is a double standard lurking within a longstanding cultural integration and acceptance of certain monotheist organizations as normative despite their long-standing track records of murder, genocide, fraud, and abuse.

Well if they were only a 30 year old organization when they orchestrated and pulled off operation snow white then its worth questioning what they could accomplish in another 100 years of manipulation. I don't think its fair to say its as bad as other Religions (thinking of the crusades) but it's different, it's not following the historical book of religious recipes. It's like they are using a highly paid think tank of lawyers to get from A to B where A is their current standing and B is total control of the entire universe.
