ha, nice. was there some crazy collectors edition that came with the hat and stuff?

No, Gamestop just had a poster and hat as freebies.

Took a break from MGSV to check out the patch 2.0 in Destiny before the Taken King launch, pretty nice.

They did a lot of aesthetic upgrades on multiple scales that really make the game look a lot better. From re-designing icons and menus to look more detailed, to remodeling a few NPC's. The biggest visual improvement is the improved lighting engine and resolutions, the lighting is even more realistic and particle effects are improved, also little details they added here and there all over that bring the maps to life a little more. The resolutions seem to be a bit improved as well everything looks a little crisper. Suppose this needed to be done, and will proabably continue to be done as they aim to lengthen the lifespan of the game. It's pretty impressive regardless.

New Crucible mode "Rift" is pretty chaotic fun, kind of like a capture the flag mode but with one central "flag" that each time fights for. "Mayhem Clash" is pretty col as well. The new light and leveling system seems a lot simpler, in a good way, and will allow more variation in guardian gear now that level isn't solely dependent on light. Nolan North voicing the ghost now will take a bit getting of getting used to, but so far seems like an improvement, he's generally a lot more expressive than the Dinklebot was.

Overall, with the last expansion and the imminent launch of TTK, Destiny's certainly improved a hell of a lot these days over the launch period era. There's a fuckton to do now, about to be more, and better systems in place. Looking forward to TTK.

Agreed on all parts. The new levels are a little more complex and challenging as well (the crucible ones) I find. Enjoying it.

Alright, just finished Ground Zeroes and now I'm pretty fucking excited for Phantom Pain (just bought it).

Now you'll see there are better games than those made by Rockstar.

Never played an MGS game before but hearing so much about it and seeing a couple of minutes of it at a friend's place makes me want to buy it

you won't regret it! just make sure to look up the general story of the series if you don't want to play the other games.

Are the controls still arse?

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

They were ok in Ground Zeroes. A tiny bit counter intuitive. You click three buttons to interrogate someone...

Edit: you need to HOLD IN three buttons to interrogate someone.

While I normally ignore anything Nintendo-related in this thread, this thing caught my attention:

Looks like it takes the original SNES cartridges. Kinda want one, but I don't have any of the cartridges. Will have to buy those first.

if you read mgs2's story from a wiki aot experiencing the game for yourself, you are ruining one of the most unique, intricate and expectation defying video game sequels of all time. halo 2 doesn't have shit on the "twist" in mgs2. i tend to agree w/ the opinion that guard ai peaked in mgs2, and that the guards became progressively stupider as the series progressed. in mgsv, you can pick off guards at an outpost one by one without any of them noticing something wrong and triggering the alarm; in mgs2, the guards notice missing comrades/patrols, and periodically check in with command via radio. it's TECHNOLOGY: the game. if you weren't there in 2001 shooting individual ice cubes out an ice bucket aboard the tanker, gtfo. you can also shoot a guard's radio while he is in the process of contacting hq which disables him from triggering the alarm. also, with the metal gear solid hd collection, you really have no excuse not to play at least 2-3.

The fact that they're mediocre stealth games with terrible controls and hilariously poorly written anime storylines that lack any form of subtlety, pacing, editing, or restraint are decent enough reasons not to play them.

edgy. if you can enjoy b movies / anime (anime is specifically referenced in metal gear solid) and you can't enjoy mgs2's plot you're dead inside. it was a mindfuck at twelve and i am still captivated by its sheer weirdness.

Mgs2 is pretty good but you spend way too much time on that fucking oil rig running back and forth. I think I gave up after that because of it. Mgs3 is the only mgs I've finished.

wtf?? a mgs fan with a divisive opinion on which game in the series is best?

Yeah, breaking the 4th wall was novel for video games at the time of MGS2's release, but it's a terrible stealth game lacking anything resembling fun. The fact that you were 12 when you played it explains why you thought it was so clever.

It's single greatest achievement of interactive cinema in human history.

Edit: or just an ancient video game that some ppl still like.

or maybe you didn't play video games in 2001 so you have no idea about how advanced it was for a ps2 game (released in 2000)?

Actually I'd been playing games since the late 80s so I'd been raised to believe that actually enjoying yourself thru entertaining mechanics & systems was more interesting than 30 minute long cutscenes every 15 steps that eventually devolve into "you're playing a video game, lol!"
