well lumpy, i guess i'm a miserable cunt. i tried pretty hard to get into this, but i just wasn't feeling it at all. very pretty, effective use of 3d, awful score, bad dialogue, the barest sketch of character and motivation, and a lot of uninspired cliched writing. really expected more after seeing the ecstatic reviews this is getting, but it's a mediocre effects picture, nothing more. and mirezzi might have called it when he said children of men is like a video game, because the endless, unbroken takes in this actually felt like a video game cutscene, not a movie. didn't help when the film turned into a sort of mirror's edge in space, with first person camera views. it destroyed whatever tension the film could have had and constantly reminded me i was watching it. maybe cuaron is just too virtuosic for his own good, i don't know.

spoilers i guess

Unspeakably bad music. ruined a lot of moments for me. hard to stomach because y tu mama had great music that made me think cuaron had ok taste. both the "orchestral" score and the electronic swells and shit were pathetic. bullock as fetus baby with umbilical cord thing was forced. not the slightest attempt to build any sense of a character, save the dead daughter which caused a gigantic lol for me due to "her just falling and hit her head." Get it guys!!? G-R-A-V-I-T-Y... woah.. deep! Completely hated the drops of water on the camera lens trope this time around. In children of men is gave the war a documentary feel, but in this coupled with the first person shifts, destroys the idea of what the camera is. yeah, at this point it can do anything. cool i guess.

the ISS exploding was 30 seconds of cinematic virtuosity that you don't see every day.

you basically covered all the points that ruined it for me too. it was a shit ton of fun, and it was filmed gorgeously (for the most part) but thats basically it.

it was a cool ride, just not a great film.

wtf was up with the soundtrack, it felt like it was caught in between generic cinematic action crap and something way more fitting. they should have explored the use of electronics more. the second they would come in, some strings would wash up and fuck up the whole mood they were seeming to run with.

also why the fuck was george clooney in space with them. he wasn't even a character, he just had a name that i can't even remember...

6-7/10

i can't even begin to describe how distracting the music was. it was just terrible. the music at the end with the woman warbling over the top of those pounding drums produced a major lol out of me. it was trying so hard. unfortunately, this is basically 127 hours in space. might as well throw sigur ros on the soundtrack and have a family pull sandra bullock out of the sea. also, the constant reminders of how beautiful life and the world is got on my last nerve. i get it, the movie is about seizing the day. so lame.

I guess I was just disappointed because I had hoped in the back of my mind that cuaron was the blessed one who could create a film where the intense and dominating effects are actually used as a means to an end-- that is, to tell a story and effect us on emotional levels. Swirling space debris... Fun to look at but leaves my mind fairly quickly. I could have just looked at a nice big pair of DDs at home and saved 12.50.

So if cuaron failed us... Who can do it?

i'm too cynical to answer that possibly rhetorical question. i don't think in the current climate of big budget film that anyone can provide the kind of balance or "means to an end" that you (and i think most people) are looking for. i think studios and advertisers have too much at stake and any film that's released is going to fall prey to those interests. but i know this doesn't make a lot of sense, because there's nothing about a blockbuster effects picture that says it has to also be mediocre and appeal to a lowest common denominator to make any money. i think cuaron is probably to blame here. there's a lot of cheesiness in children of men, gravity just takes it to the next level. but, it is really impressive, i can't say i regret watching it. just an ultimately hollow experience, more along the lines of cloverfield than 2001.

Well I am glad Jimmy admits to enjoying this. You people are a bunch of miserable cunts indeed. Fucking shit licking asshole adoring space wasters. Who here could attempt at dreaming up a better film???? The score stinks???? You fuckers should look at yourselves in the mirror and ask if you truly are here to do anything worth while except make the world a worse place after your are dead.

This film fucked me up. I was shaking after I left. Hating on this film is like hating on your own favorite films just because you are too hipster to admit that you love anything. Fuck you Lopez, Zaphod and Lumpy.

See you on the bdb board!

Alfonso Cuaron is one of the great film makers of all time. The score is amazing. This film is a game changer. You will all admit this later on if you don't already love this beautiful work of art. 10/10

BOOM. drop the mic.

you won't see me on the bdb board, i stopped posting there after i got sick of the spamming from those two libertarian/conservative trolling cunts who post fifty things in a row and don't even attempt to discuss the wake of abortions they call content.

even a hyperbolic shitbag like you can admit the score was garbage. the film itself was "quite good". lopez basically sums it up though. i'd rather watch tits jiggle.

I love tits jiggling as well but zero g film making is something I haven't seen pulled off until now. Zero G porn would be the next logical step for human slime. I am not exaggerating my love for this film but I am indeed a shit bag. I still love you Zaphod even though I hate most of your op ed pieces.

hmm, who's werner herzog then ? mcgriff ?

Filth: 1/10 / Worse than an fucking episode of Utopia.

Rush: 7/10 very good, made me want to drive cars a lot

Blue Jasmine: 8/10 very good, very bleak, an onslaught of gallows humour

Filth - confusing at times and could have been a little sharper with the directing but McAvoy is excellent and Walsh's dark twisted humour had me laughing out loud several times. Would be interesting to watch again knowing the outcome. Not as good as Trainspotting but a decent comedy 7.8/10

I watched the conjuring, had some decently creepy moments. Since it's directed by James Wan it also featured some shitty moments and some terrible acting here and there. It seems that he is at least improving his formula as he keeps going. This is basically an insidious remake, with less silly bullshit, of course it all falls apart towards the end, but If you're into this sort of this sort of thing it isn't half bad. My main question coming out of the film was this: Why do people cast Patrick Wilson in anything? I have a soft spot for haunted house flicks and this is one of them/10

Edited by Gocab

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

I turned this film off after 30mins as it was like watching an episode of Most Haunted.

I do like my nasty shit tho.

lol, leave me out of it, I was hoping for the best. I haven't even seen it yet.

But you also thought that Nic Cage film "Knowing" was a classic, so your argument is invalid, your hair is a bird

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

- lost cloud

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

-organized confused project

yeah yeah yeah, Knowing has its moments and Nic Cage should stop taking roles that anyone could play and make the film better instead of worse. Most anyone in his role would have worked better. I do not think it is a classic you wiener. Stalker is a classic. The Shining. Letter from an Unknown Woman. Kwaidan. Night of the Hunter. Gravity, imo, is as well. Knowing is good fun sci-fi horror but not a classic film.

what about my hair?

i saw flight last night. catching up on some films i missed in theatre. and it was really good! there wasn't a moment where I cringed or lost interest, it all felt very real. solid film making. also the ginger bird cooooooooooooor

Can you just say you enjoyed it?

I know you did.

I felt like I was in space.

IMMERSION!

What does it take for you to lose yourself in a film?

in all seriousness, i've made plenty of posts about films i enjoyed. they're just kind of boring reading. i did say i enjoyed gravity. read my posts. it was ok. it worked as entertainment. i wasn't fully immersed because various aspects of it (music, clooney, virtuoso camera moves) took me out. but overall, it was a decent popcorn flick. it was not, however, one of the greatest films ever made, a science fiction film, a worthy successor to 2001, or any number of other hyperbole laden statements i've seen about it.

I do try to read your posts, up until the rage begins to swell inside me, then I miss all of the positive notions hidden within.

I don't agree with any comparison to A Space Odyssey. The only thing they have in common is the setting, and that changes in 2001.

Listening to the Gravity score now and it just isn't very melodic. It has a John Williams meets Carpenter meets Richard Devine feel. Very repetitive. Nothing glamorous. Lots of wobbly synth pads. I think it fits what the film is, a minimal survival story.

Guest RadarJammer

Gravity this movie felt more personal to me than other movies since i have spent a fair amount of time over the years reading and thinking about all the different space accidents and trying to put myself in their last-minute-shoes. space disaster is the most exciting kind of disaster and I could lay in bed all night just imagining all the different scenarios or ways to commit suicide inside the suit while floating helplessly towards the stars. there isn't anything more beautiful and frightening at the same time i don't think. god damn sandra bullock is looking good. when she writhed out of that space suit i had to loosen my belt a notch. 9.9/10
