Yeah, it's lovely

this story has been adapted before in this film, but this is an attempt to give the legend it's own independent (and more realistic / less fantastical) film treatment which, unfortunately, doesn't add much despite the snow queen- who looks incredibly menacing and haunting. 

this was great- and conveniently set during the great blizzard of 1899, but unfortunately, the brutality is almost palpable especially when considering the themes of corruption and greed betwix loco and the sheriff. also seems to have been a great "influence" for tarantino's the hateful eight

I'm just glad he's back after 7-8 years of silence. I thought he'd got sick of it all and quit. he's 79 now. it's going to be a very sad day when he dies.

New Cristian Mungiu film and Sergei Loznitsa documentary premier at Cannes within a day of each other. I need to see both.

With the Loznitsa, the trailer vaguely reminds me of my favorite Stan Brakhage film, 23rd Psalm Branch. Brakhage called 23rd Psalm Branch his "meditation on violence". Intense and nsfw:

Unforgiven - still amazing, after all these years. Eastwood crushed it.

i was never receptive to the comedic hijinks of bud spencer and this film was a sobering reminder why. it's one of those films where when someone gets hit, they go down immediately then you hear birds tweeting over their head as they sits cross-eyed and dazed. it's also filmed in this city for no discernible reason i could find 

New Ricky Gervais stand up on Netflix. Loved it.

porn film masquerading as an art film showing how "real" porn is filmed in the "valley" i.e. how to make porn in LA (you point camera at peeps engaged in coitus). the director said this is a serious "feminist" film but i missed that part (and as someone that watches smut, my wife just confirmed this ain't it. twice)

Michael Beck is notable for being in 3 terrible movies with cult followings: Warriors, Xanadu, and Megaforce. He's a b-movie legend, lol

this was something. this dude had the right idea to give the right their "gotcha" moment until he went to a uni and asked a professor that question and he got schooled so hard he left and quipped "now i can say i've been to college. and i didn't have to pay for it." 

then he goes right back to asking the question to more peeps. the end

I watched this movie on netflix called Oxygen. It's one of these smart movies that takes place in one location the whole time. In this case, a little futuristic pod. The whole thing is very claustrophobic and made me feel incredibly anxious. Anyways, I'd say it was a good watch.

Last thing I saw was Everything Everywhere All At Once. I really enjoyed it. I'll have to watch it again to confirm how solid the writing is, because everything moves so fast that I'm sure there are plot holes, but it doesn't really matter since the message comes through clear and the performances are incredible. Seriously, everyone in the film is giving 100% and the filmmakers fit so much in that it's a necessary re-watch. There are jokes I picked up on during my watch that I can't believe they included as they're so unexpected and left-field. Also, while it's easy to praise Michelle Yeoh's incredible performance and the visual effects, Jamie Lee Curtis' performance is so different from most anything else I've seen her do before that it really stands out. She's very physical, adjusting the way she moves quite dramatically, in a way that reminds me of Vincent D'Onofrio in the first Men in Black as the alien "wearing" the farmer's body. Definitely worth checking out, it really impressed me in a way that a movie hasn't in quite a long time.

the kid on the cover lives on an army base where his dad is a fighter pilot. during some "mission" he's captured in a "shithole" country and america isn't going to do anything about it due to diplomatic relations b.s. so it's up to that kid to take matters into his own hand. so he learns how to fly an F-16, finds out where his dad is being held and gets all the necessary maps and ammo to get his father out. in three days. because that's how long his dad has. 

this film spawned  a series of 4 films all of which bombed

I do like your taste, and coverage of these "classics" This was another vhs I can just about recall seeing as a kid. 

Always have time for a Louis Gossett Jr. appearance. He still deserves props for Enemy Mine.

It is very likely I watched this thing when I was a kid, I have some vague memories of it. It might even be I took it unironically for real, like "wow, what a story!"

It's like when I first saw Hotshots. Me being all crazy about jet fighters, I thought it was seriously amazing; all the puns and jokes just flew right over my naive head (pun intended, sorry).
