Also recently rewatched this. Toxic Waste Acid Man is so dope!

Part 1 as a whole is a blast, part 2 is kinda meh despite Frank Miller's involvement (apparently his script was so "brutal and cynical" that it got watered down beyond recognition); fell asleep halfway through part 3 and never went back to it.

Thinking back, I also saw the remake in the theatre in 2014, but I don't remember jack shit about it.

I watched the remake too and I legitimately can’t remember a thing about it as well which is almost remarkable in a way. Toxic Waste Acid man scared the shit out of me as a kid. I was thinking of watching part II but after what you said I think I’m good now.

I’ve been curious about this for a very long time and started watching it last night. It famously has a reputation for being terrible ( Bowie one said “It was my 32 Elvis Presley movies rolled into one”) and, although I certainly can see why, it’s worth watching to see Bowie moving and breathing in 1978. 
Still, it is not a good movie at all. The first  60 minutes of the movie could have been done in 5.

Also, peeped the new Mission Impossible movie. At the end of the day, I dug it. Fun movie.  Criticisms

Watched this last night because it is about the Gilgo Beach murders in NYC. 

The movie has some good performances and interesting details about the early developments in the case, many of which I haven’t read about in my near-obsessive scouring of news coverage. Unfortunately, the story and suspense is a bit thin. It’s really more about the interpersonal relationships. 
 

If you haven’t been following the news, it’s pretty crazy. They finally found a suspect and arrested him / raided his house. They found a secret room with an arsenal of over 200 weapons and a coffin-sized glass case with a life-sized doll in it. Banana town. Lots of other creepy/gripping details, as well.

A friend of mine works told me that, in a completely insane coincidence, he talked to a couple producers on the film when the news broke about Heuermann (the new suspect) and they told him that Amy Ryan actually had him in her house with some home renovation job! He wasn’t sure if it was before or after the film was made. Still, that’s fuckin ridiiiiiculous.

The camera drifting out over the banlieue to "je ne regrette rien" was another poignant moment I think, and the cow, I wonder if we are the cows watching, or it's just a symbol for the absurd meaninglessness of the situation

Rewatching Midsommar, I see it a bit differently from before. Dani was treated so indifferently by those around her from the start, and as much as the cult enacts immoral practices (murder, brainwashing), it fills the needs Dani always had - to be valorised for her innate kindness, awareness and strength, to have her grief shared and to receive genuine empathy and kinship, including genuine acknowledgement of grief and suffering, and for death and the raw flow of life to be incorporated into awareness.

insane film. like a cross between the warriors and mad max directed by tinto brass but done in the boca do lixo style which means it's absolutely mad. the film was later re-cut and packaged as this porno perhaps due to the lackluster "wild sex" promised in the title (although, imo, they still didn't get the "wild sex" they alluded to even in the porn version)

not as fun as the mexican punk films but still highly recommended

overhyped maybe, and not perfect, I can see why someone wouldn't like it - like first time I watched it none of characters seemed sympathetic, sfx of head smashing looked rubbery etc. but I dunno - I like it personally

Quite liked the film myself and keep meaning to rewatch it, but I'm an absolute sucker for anything along the lines of The Wickerman. In other words people getting killed/sacraficed by the hands of pagan cults.

Have you seen Hereditary? Or Kill List? They're pretty good, especially Hereditary.

Oppenheimer is really good and holds attention for the whole three hours it takes, and Cillian Murphy is amazing. It's a different kind of Nolan film, it'll rub completely different neuronal pathways than his previous work. Gerwig's Barbie is overtly feminist, funny, serious, absurd, grotesque even, but a good watch nevertheless; one might think of it as a two-hour Mattel ad, and of course it is, but it's overt about its real message, too. It's an adult movie with adult themes, and if you're put off by pink, dayglo, in-your-face feminism or blatant tropes, choose something else.

Saw that trailer a few weeks ago when I went to see John Wick 4 (and The Flash after that), I have to admit I was baffled that it's a Blomkamp movie. It's really weird that he chose a project like that, I would've rather had Alien instead, although I don't think it was up to him. I know some have to make Gran Turismos to get the chance to do whatever they actually want to do, but.

Yeah, but Chappie notwithstanding (I'm probably one of the few who really likes it), his trajectory has been pretty downward since District 9. Don't know if u saw his horror movie (Demonic) but.... God it was awful. I mean, irredeemably bad. Might be dude just needs the paycheck...

I like everything he's done up until now, even the shorts and Oats Studios stuff is great; Elysium isn't the greatest, but it still has his touch, his personality ingrained. I adore Chappie, it has a metric fuckton of great ideas expanded from Tetra Vaal and the casting's ace with Ninja and Yolandi. Haven't seen Demonic yet.
