Mystery Solved: Aphex Twin On The ZX81

Recommended Posts

I remember when I discovered Ascii and I was obsessed with it for a while. I've never spent the time to make a piece of work out of it, but I really appreciate the things I've seen done.

he will fucking lie about anything. is he pathological?

Maybe I missed something but I dont see how this proves RDJ was lying though, doesn't it just prove that someone else made sound on a zx81 no ?

I think the implication is around this time magazines were paying about 6 quid for a script, and not the 50 quid Richard claimed he won... also the fact he was 10-11 years old at the time (not out of the realm of possibility, but you know, Richard and the truth sometimes are at polar opposites, usually on purpose on the part of Richard).

Also, I would think making hardware do what it was impossible to do would make this a fairly popular article, that nobody seems to have or can corroborate.

I just took a steamroller to all my Aphex Twin CD's, records and VHS tapes like they did in the 90's to rap records I AM SICK OF THE LIES!!!!

lol

My old TV when I had the C64 as a kid was really electronically noisy. I remember that if you turned the volume quite loud that bright white screens would make really loud buzzes (a la Alvo Noto) and other colours would make various other glitchy sounds. So this when the volume was turned up sounded like something from Florian Hecker -

(not for epileptics - though they never put that warning on when I was a kid. Children must've had seizures left right and centre in the 8 bit days)

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

I miss the old cathode ray tube days... I used to be able to "feel" when a television was on in the house without hearing it or knowing in what room it was in... that hum resonated with me.

Getting quite off-topic here, but I'd advise anyone suffering from some amount of C64 nostalgia to find a SID player (there's plugins for Winamp and Foobar) and check out Ed Svard's music... holy shit. http://noname.c64.org/csdb/scener/?id=17435&allhandles=1 I think there is a more efficient collection of his tunes around but "Severed" and "Cancer" are pretty awesome for starters.

Yeah, same here. Although I still have an old CRT, fucking great B&O set. I can hear ha high pitch whine from the other side of the house even when the sound is off.

I remember being very fond of turning them on and feeling the static on the screens.
