C64 demoscene is awesome

Erm, that's on the Amiga A1200/A4000 my dear !

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

Also, I would think making hardware do what it was impossible to do would make this a fairly popular article, that nobody seems to have or can corroborate.

The whole point of home computers (as far as hackers are concerned) is to

... and then have breakfast at Milliways!

For instance, check out

, performing various digital signal processing of music on a machine which only has an analogue synthesiser for its sound.

Cubase64 is one of the most impressive demos out there. A big point of demos is to show how bloated computer software is today, and how much can be done with a small processor.

i have no idea why you're going on about STs and Amigas. the original ZX81 had 1K of memory - the ST and Amiga had a minimum of 512K! the way this hack worked was because of the shitty RF shielding on the '81. you could stick a radio or tv near it and it would pick up stuff like the Z80 processor executing loops. it so happened that the processor was shitty enough that the loop approximated a sine or square wave (ie Hertz not MHz) and the shielding was shitty enough that a nearby radio could pick it up - or a detuned tv.

Yes, it's the same trick Steve Dompier used on the Altair way back.

nice links Zoe. i love the sound of beautiful lo-fi digital effects. Some can be amazing. if you know any software or boxes that do this well please pass it on.

If you want to sound "digital", just bitcrush. Reduce the sample resolution or sample rate. You can kind of do the latter with a sample and hold module. I guess that makes it technically an analogue execution of a quintessentially digital style effect.

If you want the actual effects from the Cubase64 demo, check out its white paper. Just in case it wasn't sufficiently impressive before you read it!

is there a thread on really old computer musics?

There's the "Old electronic music to buy" thread, which looks pretty good. For instance, I can't remember for sure, but this was probably how I found out about Synergy, who inspired

. Specifically, the Zoids theme is very similar to Ancestors.

One (kind of backwards, but fun) way of looking at it, is that a nice big modular system with a digital sequencer (eg the "deliberately easy" MC-8) is essentially a very, very versatile chip to make chiptunes on. Either way, you need an impressive amount of patience. :)

does anybody has skills in programming on Z80 ?

I have a project someone could be interested into: just drop me a message in pvt.

In assembly or machine code? You'd probably need to ask on a more specialist board, it's quite a niche skill.

Guest KRiSh 05

assembly Z80 to be later exported on an EPROM.

cross-compilation could be good, but Z80 optimization is highly welcomed.

i'll spread the word maybe on other forums (on KVR there is already a thread... and also in Zilog),

but first i'm trying to commit in the project some important guys.

without their support it wouldn't be the same..

if they are in, maybe i'll do appropriate post also here.

somebody with proper english skills update wikipedia! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aphex_Twin#ZX81_competition

There's nothing to update. It's true that he made that claim. It's not been proven that the claim itself is true. It's impossible to prove that it's false.
