Aphex Twin

Tim Hecker

Earth

Plaid

Wolfgang Voigt

Tim Hecker has yet to release an average record, imho.

Ravedeath did it for me.

:cerious:

wut? that album is beautiful!

virgins. now wat bro

Not necessarily in order except the first two.

1: Oneohtrix Point Never and all of Daniel Lopatin's other projects

2: Death Grips

3: VHS Head

4: Vektroid

5: https://soundcloud.com/silkbless but he's taken most of my favorite songs offline, also on his Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZoS0HUTLsc

Honorable mentions and artists that haven't made quite enough music/I haven't heard enough music by for me to gauge: Desktop Music, Dux Content, Internet Club, Fatima al Qadiri, Teams, Beck, James Ferraro, Lil Ugly Mane, DJ Paypal, Wassup Foolie, Joanna Newsom, Kid 606 (GQ on the EQ and Down with the Scene are great, the rest is meh), Jono Mi Lo, Cool 'n' Ice Mike, Clark (only because of Body Riddle), Actress (only because of Splazsh), The Beatles, The Mountain Goats, Prefuse 73 (this one came close, on a different day he might make the list), Radiohead,.

I also am guessing that Tim Hecker would be on there, but I haven't really listened to anything by him for some reason.

Positive Metal Attitude

I heard John Peel play Girl/Boy on his radio show one night. I think that moment was a turning point for me, so I shall do two top fives, one Before Peel and one Post Peel

Before Peel Played Girl/Boy

Black Sabbath (early years, first 5 or 6 albums)

Metallica (first 4 albums)

Slayer

Pink Floyd

Loads of early hip-hop from the Golden Era (Run DMC, Eric B & Rakim, BDP, PE, Beasties etc) Bit of a cheat there lol

After Peel Played Girl/Boy

Aphex Twin and other aliases

Boards of Canada

Autechre

Black Sabbath (as above)

Pink Floyd

PS I still love Slayer!! lol

This is a bunch of crap. I don't think any one of us can condense our favorite artists into a list of five.
I'm sitting here giving myself a hard time for leaving people out, but it'd be kinda shitty to just add more now when the thread rule is 5.

This. I have over 4000 artists in mediamonkey. It's impossible for me to condense this into 5 favorite!

Nah, you're a wee child who can't wait for official release. Embarrassing. Shove your privilege.

We won't etch it in your tombstone, I promise.

Yeah... this is hard for me... I do have all time favorites but I don't listen to them as much as I used to. Although I still consider them influential. But in present time these are the 5 that I like

1. MF Doom

2. MadLib (Projects including Quasimoto, Beat Konducta, etc.)

3. Knxwledge

4. Ras G

5. Boards of Canada

Most influence: Bochum Welt

Favs: varies a lot. But I keep coming back to:

Bochum Welt

AFX

Drexciya/Gerald Donald etc.

Erik Satie

Pretty much love everything Space Dimension Controller releases

Autechre

Isis

The Bug

Amon Tobin

Massive Attack

this is a fucked-up list. there are some terrible exclusions here. I deliberately excluded artists that I think are in a related continuum in an attempt to cover wider ground within such a limited number of picks.

5 picks is way too few for anyone who spends more than a casual amount of time on music. also it's usually impossible to make a fully representative list that will stand the test of time.

1. james last: ultra brutal gutteral genious

2. ja rule: so underated, dmx totally jacked his style

3. dj hardwell: best dj ever, each album he puts out is better then anything the autechre guy does

4 anal birth: seriously overlooked by anal lovers

5. flo rida, you can't spell forida without ida

Aphex Twin

R.E.M.

Boards of Canada

Radiohead I guess*

Tied between like a dozen artists**

Beatles

John Williams

*Hard to pick but I could easily put Seefeel, Burial, Menomena, Chemical Brothers, Massive Attack, Boris, The Doors, Butthole Surfers, Fly Lo, Bjork and a ton of other artists who I love but Radiohead just manages to top all of them.

**Many of my favorite albums are by artists who had mediocre later careers or who morphed into something I could never get into even if I was a huge fan: Weezer, U2, Smashing Pumpkins are a few examples.
