hi everyone, I think this can be really helpful and interesting to discover new music.

You can either say your 5 most influential artist of all time, or your favorite artist of the moment or of all time, whatever.

My top 5 goes like this.

1-Kettel

2-Miles Davis

3-Gil Scott Heron

4-John Coltrane

5- Tie position here: Aphex Twin and Dinosaur JR.

Whats yours!

Your love for Kettel makes me very happy. I can't really arrange a list of favorite artists, however Kettel was a life changing discovery.

My list hasn't changed at all. Probably when you hit your mid 30's these things remain more stable. I don't want too sound big headed but when it comes to the realms of electronic/rock music I've heard a lot of stuff so doubt my top 5 will change. The only way it will is if I get into another genre like jazz or classical, another realm so to speak. Maybe Sun Ra will take a top spot in 5 years time....

AE
Death Grips
Wolfgang Voigt
VHS Head
Sensational

another pointless list i feel guilty of making. feels good to rip it off my chest and show it to the world though, like that leech on the back of my neck that went about its business unnoticed for the whole afternoon.

my "desert-island-artist-top-5-list":

John Coltrane

Street Military

Aphex Twin (like in all of his monikers)

Madlib (like in all of his monikers/collabs)

El-P (respectively Company Flow or Run The Jewels)

Guest BasDirks

Too sick to go to work, so breaking rules:

  1. Chopin
  2. Aphex Twin
  3. Radiohead
  4. Bob Dylan
  5. Boards of Canada
  6. Smokey Robinson
  7. Plaid
  8. ELO
  9. Tchaikovsky
  10. Gas
  11. Bee Gees
  12. Steinski
  13. Marvin Gaye
  14. Sam & Dave
  15. Ochre
  16. Robin Pecknold
  17. Autechre
  18. Schubert
  19. Four Tops
  20. Gang Starr
  21. Mussorgsky
  22. Ulrich Schnauss
  23. Jon Hopkins
  24. emptyset
  25. The Supremes
  26. Röyksopp
  27. Fleet Foxes
  28. The Field
  29. James Brown
  30. Bach
  31. Air
  32. Stars Of The Lid

Ordered as best I could, but obviously a 1-dimensional ranking of art(ists) is very imperfect. Like having The Supremes above Bach...

I doubt many watmmer's hate making lists, heh

Though I can't handle top 10 albums of all time, now that is fucking impossible!!

yeahhh does obsessive list making put me on the autism spectrum?? I should retake that test.. top 10 albums of all time ain't got nothing on top 10 autechre tracks of all time megamix 2.0.

As of 2014:

5. Lone
4. Actress
3. Plaid
2. VHS Head
1. Ae (hasn't changed since 1999)

EDIT: If this were last year, there would've been DJ Rashad, Machine Drum, and Team Doyobi in lieu of VHS Head, Plaid, and Lone.
