It would be nice to have this album in 24bit wav! Exai sounds amazing in 24bit!

Are you saying you can reliably discriminate between 24- and 16-bit audio by ear? Or did you mean to say "Exai sounds amazing" period?

That is irrelevant. The choice is there. If you chose to listen to 24bit WAV files over 16bit WAV files, or FLAC, or MP3, or AAC, or vinyl, or wax cylinder, it's up to the subjective listener to make that choice. And choice is always a good thing.

what's with the face? You telling me that you weren't heading for a 24bit vs 16bit debate?

It depends on what gear you're using to listen back on doesn't it....playing the 24bit files thru good software, a good DAC and nice monitors i can hear a slight difference. obviously if the master files have been output at 24bit then youre not loosing anything when it's dithered down to 16bit.

You know how Warp mentioned that pre-orders will only get MP3s as they didn't have the infrastructure to cope with the bandwidth required for lossless files? Well how come all the digital files (i.e. the 320kbps MP3, 16-bit WAV and FLAC and 24-bit WAV) will be available to download from that same date (10th June over here)

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

It's about how many possible values each sample can have, with a higher bitrate you can store more detail.

ok thx

Hey Guys,

I think I've discovered the first hidden message buried deep within the mix on Semena Mertvykh.

I was listening today and a faint voice that sounded weirdly like my boss said "Can you take those off and get on with some work."

Weird uh?.

See you on Twoism

exactly this. it's not that they can't do it. it's that they can't afford to lose all the money they'd be giving away by not charging extra for the release in HQ formats.

Nah, the face was because it seems strange to say audible differences are irrelevant to someone wanting 24-bit presumably [because] "Exai sounds amazing in 24bit!". This isn't about subjectively liking one sound over the other (e.g. vinyl vs. digital), but about there being an audible difference at all. Yes it tends to be a pretty useless discussion. But I'm just saying if someone were really somewhat frustrated by not having a 24-bit version it's easy for them to test whether they can even detect a difference, i.e. ABX something they have in both 24 and 16 bit.

I think I'll just rip the 16bit wavs from the CD I'm not paying for vinyl, CD and 24Bit wavs!

Same, I ordered both physical formats and the CD quality FLACs are all I need in terms of files.

Oh, I'm seeing it now (after everyone's got it): "You demanded your FLACs, so here they are - just buy the album again" Brilliant!

Dammit, I told myself I would stop coming to this thread, especially after this morning's Bleep email, restating that downloads will be available on the 10th. It's just not going to happen early. Hell, the 10th is actually one day early for the US. Maybe I can cop it Sunday night with the UK folks.

Yeah it's one thing to give HQ formats away for Autechre. Let's face it, what percentage of the world's music consuming population would enjoy listening an Autechre album? Most people don't like the bleeps and squonks.

But I'm sure Warp realize that BoC have the potential to reach at least a slightly larger audience and make a few more bucks. But i still doubt because most of that music listening market is perfectly content with mp3s. They don't know what a flac is.

a lot of folks i know are even happy listening to music via youtube etc.

Yeah, for better or worse, how people listen and consume music these days is shaping expectations and how music is being made.

I just realized it must suck if you work for bleep and are browsing this thread and you live in Syria
