I would like to reiterate my point that this is a cold album, and releasing it in June does not make sense to me. Its getting to high summer here now and this feels to me like a winter album. I look forward to revisiting TH in November and hopefully it will gel with me more then.

PS

My tru feels obviously do not apply to our southern hemisphere friends.

i think this will stand the test of time but will also probably be in stark contrast to what comes next LP-wise. I think there will be an accompanying ep with some longer stuff in the same vein that didnt fit the narrative that they were going for. then the next LP wont be as stripped down/dark.

i will say, on one hand, i absloutely love how many voices there are on this LP but on the flip side, they all seem to be treated the same way.

beginning of song > very little change > small beat drop out > bang back on with chopped vocals > repeat as necessary

i am not complaining though, i really am still enjoying it. i think from track 5 through track 16 is 100% flawless.

I think for me though I love the album I'm a bit disapointed in the fact they took no risks. It's just BOC by numbers and they played it safe. The fact that they pushed this album through so many commercial avenues also tells me that it was made for the masses

No, far from it, i don't know how you even think that. they've progressed their sound and composition. atleast it's very clear to me.

Okay, sorry, I started this thread when I was drunk, and completely forgot about it...I actually like TH, it sounds like the bones of everything they've done up to this point, an atmospheric skeleton of the previous structures they've used, with ghosts of previous elements haunting the background, and I do like it.

Are you sure you aren't drunk now?

I just got done with a forty-minute bike ride, and I'm huffing tirelessly on an e-cigarette, so I think I may be stoned.

the core of BOC's sound is there; the right, exact notes and chords that triggers an emotional response. but TH is definitely more complete as an album both musically and in sound palette in comparison to previous works imo (Geogaddi for example; maybe TCH). is like they really knew the theory and how to put it into practice.

oh, and from the southern hemisphere, it fits perfectly

My problem with TH is that tracks 1-9 seem like a mash up of all 3 previous LP's executed flawlessly. It seemed like a massive intro to the same concept and i expected it to continue with that same strength throughout. My thinking at the time upon first listen was "ok i see what they're doing here with the theme and was completely ok with that, in fact i was loving it.

tracks 10-11 just seemed to stray away too much, and gave me the sense of a long wind down in a new direction, one i wasn't expecting after such a familiar and stellar first half. There seems to be no middle, and jumps straight to encore after encore, without keeping the structure i so much was enjoying initially.

was discussing this with a friend a few weeks after we both listened to it in his studio, and we both felt they were overindulging on certain tracks. the first half has a deeply sinister feel which was awesome, but then that feel gets replaced instantly by a quirky cheesy feel, too much too soon.

I wouldn't have minded that the whole album was a concept based on a deliberate mash up of all thier earlier work, but it seems to take a jarring turn for me that leaves me feeling slightly disappointed before it gets itself back on track almost too late. my main and only issue being tracks 10 and 11 spoil the initial BoC like nostalgic trance i was effortlessly in.

I've only listened a couple times, but I'm pretty sure it's better than almost everything else they've done, Geogaddi excepted. It destroys Campfire Headphase and Transcanada, subjectivity be damned. Watmm be trippin'.

I think there really hasn't been enough time to determine if TH is "cheap" or the "greatest BoC yet" - look at how TCH was similarly dismissed by most, and today it's clearly stood the test of time in comparison to the other BoC albums. Is TCH the best of the 4 LPs? Probably not, but it yielded some songs that are now considered classics.

Let's revisit this in a year or two, and see if opinions remain the same.

Hate to be the teachers pet, but this is bang on.

I have this 50/50 feeling that firstly its a brilliant album and secondly there is just some special ingredient missing from the cauldron, but I couldn't tell you what that ingredient is.......

Honestly Palace Posy has ruined this entire album for me

Remove it and the mood sticks

finally someone agrees with me on that..... not that it ruins the album for me though.... just takes away the flawlessness or direction i wanted. maybe thats selfish, but it's my opinion

Lots of wrong opinions in here.

Totally agree, TH is fantastic, they are exploring new ground, although would be great to hear all the (200!+) tracks they decided not to put on it, my only criticism is with the marketing, started amazingly but became annoying after a while, would of preferred if they didnt tell anyone about it & just released it

Guest cult fiction

The whole album is tackling the ensuing apocalypse from different perspectives and directions - from one world government to climate change. Palace Posy aka Calypso Ape is a beautiful counterpart to Sick Times and is a necessary, more optimistic/self-deluded take on the end.

TH is definitely their strongest meta-album - there's so much in the overarching structure and individual songs to pick apart and consider.
