Is TH "cheap"?

i would describe TH as a more sober/somber experience than the more nostalgic qualities of some of their previous releases,initially anyway, until the hidden depths start to reveal themselves,and the complaints about the length of some of the best tracks is redundant,some of their recognized classic songs end way too soon eg..roygbiv/84 pontiac dream/constants are changing/iced cooly, etc. TH is definitely a departure in style from previous releases with just enuff to remind you who you,re listening to,and there is plenty of time for them to get back into the warm nostalgia style in the (hopefully) not too distant future.

This is something I noticed as a departure from from previous installments, the earlier releases had a more personal feel, and less of that "fourth wall" quality, as if the goal of the album was for BoC to remove themselves from the compositions and attempt to create music that someone else wrote for a film in their style.

It doesn`t sound cheap to me, I love how aged and out of time it sounds. I think the beauty of it is how it taps into my memory/subconscious [more so than any other BOC album] with it`s evocative, haunting and melancholic vibes...and it`s really addictive as well.

That would require me visiting twoism, which I have never done, nor intend to do...I am under the impression twoism is like the sensitive, obsessive, and socially awkward younger brother of watmm that sits in his room all day perusing knife catalogues.

That's nasty of him. But perhaps that was the initial plan and they dropped it... would be kinda sad of T.H. would have been their Exai. But the relatively high number of tracks suggests otherwise, the concept is present throughout. It's more the core-structure of the tracks that feels, I'll quote that again, a bit "skeletal"... then again, we don't know how many tracks they're sitting on. Maybe they sorted out the 12 other 4-minute-monster-tracks they had and reached into their basket of shorter interlude type tracks to re-structure the album over the last months (would even explain why Telepath, Collapse and so forth sound more like classic BoC-tracks than the longer ones, but that's probably just conspiracy theory shit)... we'll never know I guess.

It's not cheap, I just don't like the theme they chose for it. That's all. It's a great album, I like it a ton, but because the old sci-fi film score thing does absolutely nothing for me it's just not that evocative or deep. Personally, it's just not an interesting concept for an album, I can't connect to the tracks like I could with past lp's. I'll just look forward to what's next.

I'm wasn't trying to complain, just generate discussion on the idea.

Most of it is enjoyable, but doesn't distinguish itself from the music BoC has influenced or offer something unique that only they can deliver. They really are keeping it pretty safe here. The internet hive mind has it so backwards it's painful: Campfire Headphase was their leap forward as producers. New song structures, new sounds, tons of new detail. They've ditched most of that on here.

This album engulfs me; it's just immense! Haters GTFO, cognitive dissonance be damned!

First time I listened to it, I felt horrible. Quormy. I felt like like shit, like something was torn within me. This amount of disgust? By music? Something MUST be wrong with it. Almost immediately I realized that it's pretty great when music can make you feel this way.

A second listen gave me more peace than the initial listen, although I must confess that I was really tired and smoking weed during my first listen, which doesn't give it a good .. uuh.. projection?

I like it. As every BoC album, it has to grow on you. It was mentioned before that TCH was initially disliked by a lot of people, though it stood the test of time (and I daresay, it's a great album).

I think the music reflects the crux of our time: lack of believe in divine forces, human arrogance and envy running rampant and unchecked, being on the brink of great scientific breakthroughs, yet still rooted in old, obsolete beliefs. Maybe that's why people find it cheap?

There will always be nay-sayers, though..
