I'm judging solely from the vid in the OP btw, haven't seen any other interview. Tnx for the daily show link, godel.

The web exclusive is the most interesting part, btw.

linkie?

Yeah exactly. The interview wasn't about the content of the book. It was about Fox News questioning whether or not he was qualified to write the book in the first place.

And he was simply asserting that he was.

Do I understand it correctly (not only from your post btw - edit) that people in America are actually, really, in all seriousness discussing wether or not it should be legal to write books like this one?

Funny how commenting on the fact that the dude is being arrogant for a minute or two of his ten minute interview is construed as "arguing for Fox News". But it does make me wonder how I would react to that kind of accusation if I didn't have the time to think before I type, so I guess it serves its purpose.

No, at least nobody that matters, is discussing that - including Fox News

Welcome to the internet :cisfor:

lol

It's kind of interesting how he says "you can be a follower of jesus, but not a christian". Of course it's the same old "aside from god religion has it's good points"- argument, but I never thought about jesus this way.

Very interesting thread and video.

Edit: By the way, both people in the video appears to be total idiots, so I'd say I'm pretty neutral in this. I'd love to see this thread go on though.

Also note the "and you can be a christian, but not believe in jesus" or something of that nature. ...*winks* ...well, my god, did he really just say that a lot of christians do not follow the beliefs of this jesus.... on national television?

You gotta watch that from 21:00 on in, I think you'll find him less of an idiot. And he says some things I never realized, especially his last point about jesus being a jew and how the concept of a god-man would be totally ridiculous to him.

lol yeah. It's kinda sad how this old jewish stuff together with the story of jesus was abused by the catholics and all. Edited by th555

I like how he linked fundamentalism to science as some sort of counter movement of conservative religious people trying to fit their beliefs into 'science'. Interesting way of putting fundamentalism in a socio-historical context .

If you're a muslim who wrote a book about christianity, you should know what you're getting at when accepting an interview for FOX. You've got to accept that you're gonna have to deal with total dipshits that completely ignore logical reasoning. That being said, I don't think he's being arrogant; what I'm saying is that he had already made his point of not being a random bloke like 4 times and it didn't work. You can't expect to make the same point a dozen times when clearly the anchor is not getting it / ignoring it; try something else

^ lol at both those clips

The thing is, he wasn't bragging. She was painting his as some random Muslim off the street who out of the blue wrote a book about Jesus. He was just trying to make it very clear that he is a professional scholar. If he didn't emphasize that fact, then many people would have gone away with the impression that he was just some randon Muslim dude out to ruin Christianity. That distinction was a crucial one, and deserved to be pointed out multiple times.

Completely agree with LimpyLoo, the bias was painfully obvious and childish, and she was totally unprepared and incompetent.

HOWEVER

that said I'm sure this guy, being intelligent, knew 100% what he was getting into by going on Fox news, and was counting on it, for the same reason he named his book "Zealot". How in the fuck do you possibly get attention as an historian nowadays? By taking some beloved or at least well-known figure, or event, and taking a controversial stance on it (eg., Lincoln was gay, etc). He has to sell controversy to move units, I'm sure he's aware being a Muslim writing about Jesus gives him more sexy-scandal-factor, hence why it's on pg. 2 of his book. He's no dummy, he's using the known traits of the media and celebrity to his best advantage.

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

No-one here has claimed otherwise.

so i just watched that daily show interview and i gotta say i really like this guy. never heard of him before but what he says agrees with the other accounts & books i've read. was raised/schooled lutheran for 9 years ( :wtf:) so jesus became a pretty big part of my life, lol. fox news anchor can suck the hose.

why do you hate him Smetty? I'd like to think he's one of the good guys who has a TV show right now. I don't really keep up with his show though

i would try to land an interview on fox news just to say some really insane shit that would go over their head enough so they wouldn't be able to use the time delay to bleep it out.

like '5 terabytes of snuff porn says that jesus was crucified' by the time they would realize what you just said it would be too late. Or say "i have 2 PHds in coprophilia, i am more than qualified on discussing this issue"

i don't feel that he adds anything of substance in the majority of Young Turk clips Ive watched in my time. He comes off as a Bill Maher type color commentator. I know a lot of people here like Maher, many times I sort of agree with him, but find the dialogue to be way too forced or hammy "Let's make fun of George Bush nonstop". But at the very least Maher is a comedian, this guy Cenk just seems to start every YT clip with "hey check this out isnt this crazy?" then inserts some really forced and flat attempt at "oh-aren't-they-stupid" humor. I'm just saying let the clip speak for itself; I don't want some guy commenting over top of it.
