VHS Head - Persistence Of Vision

Right now Body Magic is slaying me into an infinitude of pieces!

Good album, already feels like it's gonna hold up well, but for now I'll be rocking the shit outta it this summer (northern hemisphere represent!)

Also finding it a lot more playful and less menacing than expected (esp after first seeing the cover art)

It's still decidedly VHS Head, but doesn't feel as samey as "Midnight Section" did to "Trademark Ribbons of Gold,"

Oddly it feels more closely related to his earlier release 'Video Club'

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

Okay now those look A LOT like they could be the work of the Bola cover guy - how could you (whoever it was that pointed it out earlier) tell from that godawful front cover alone? Is the guy credited?

The inner sleeve design looks fantastic anyhow.

yeah, Michael England is credited on the Skam Records page for the album

The strange thing is, I don't remember writing "anyhow" ... I don't normally use that word at all. I thought you edited it but it's there in the original post, What's going on?

Fantastic album, even if I barely remember any of it right now. Angels Never Sleep is fantastic and I don't remember disliking a single second of it. It's still decidedly VHS Head, but doesn't feel as samey as "Midnight Section" did to "Trademark Ribbons of Gold," albeit I'm sure there are good reasons for why those two were so similar.

Although, considering the two tracks I've heard yet, Midnight Section sounds like a transition between the two. Thinking of Nightmare Park especially, probably my favorite track from that one. Also it seems to me that Midnight Section's title track has some similarities with Body Magic regarding the way the melody is progressing, maybe I'm imagining it though.

Listened to this a few times now, and am really enjoying it. Despite some of the menacing themes, there seems to be a a warmth throughout the whole record, I guess due to the source material. There are also lots of really melodic tracks scattered throughout. Yellow - I think I see what you mean about the TH vibe - I mean BOC were going for that old B-movie vibe with a lot of the stuff on TH, and I think some synth sounds resemble what's on Persistence of Vision, though I think this is much more playful than TH.

Blerp Mix is really nice - recognised a couple of tracks of old, but plenty new to my ears. Just wish it were longer than 37mins, love it :music:

it's also interesting in that it uses a lot of the same samples that he's already used in his releases, but in different ways (often less cut-up). sheds some light on how he uses them.

those are edits that he's previously only played live

Fantastic album. At the back of my mind I was wondering how he could put out another album without replicating TROG, but he's aced that album, IMO. I'm with The Dob, Body Magic is far and away the standout for me, as good as the rest of it is.

On the downside, my Bleep Mix CD appears to be a complete dud. Won't play in my CD deck and unreadable on my computer. Hope the copy with the vinyl works.

Telepath! Sounds like a very similar effect was used on the vocal sample in both tracks. Slow ringmod?

Don't worry, Jaffa just praised the new Die Anteater record, so we can't give his opinion too much weight... :emotawesomepm9:

The beginning of Camera Eyes is melting my face.

"They're about guns, lasers, robots with laser guns in space. Monsters from the future. Explosions. Sylvester Stallone doing a backflip on top of a spike while Robocop carries a ghost up a mountain. Bombs and swords and that... IDM is awesome."

Begin speculation on lyrics in frozen

Edit: obviously not the didney movie :trashbear:
