wouldnt it be nice if there was just one operating system, and all the software and hardware companies could focus on making their products blow through the roof of what they are doing now?

but... who would be the one that would design the operating system?

linux can take so many forms... look at android and see what happens when the hardware companies (but in this case especially the networks) "customize" the OS into a steaming pile of poo.

so it's either:

- one super mega OS that's designed to be perfect fro everyone (dream on)

- customizable to be anything (linux.. but will your mom be happy with it?)

what's wrong with.... customers' choice?

imo, apple is doing it the best they can... hardware <--> OS made to work nicely together. not saying that it's perfect, sometimes it is questionable (App Store blahblah), but you couldn't do it better, nor could i, nor could anyone else it seems.

you could say that yeah, so they could wrap their hardware-matched UI around some nice linux core, but SURPRISE, there's the BSD stuff underneath. it works well. why the fuck would they give it up?

what i don't understand is why apple is hoarding so much cash, from my armchair POV they could spend it on some crazy R&D and invent the iUFO, well, i don't know much about economics, but i do know that there's shareholders and the company has to operate according to their will, i.e. maximize profit.

now you're maybe thinking, yeah, this is where the problem is! well.. good. but the entire hardware operations bonanza they do sadly doesn't work out the open source way, obviously.

osx is about the same as linux. so why do we need osx?

most of the internet is run on linux boxes. its only a matter of time before the public realizes they are being screwed.

Linux type operating systems will run all computers soon, the real question is why are we delaying the inevitable? its painful and it makes me embarassed to be a human that osx exists.

I think you need to reassess your priorities.

i guess with osx you pay for the ease of use.. linux used to be just text and really difficult OSes with nothing built in to "just work" for the novice and it took forever for things to start working because there wasnt money there to fuel motivation

Christ I can feel that already and I've barely done anything on it. Aside from Ableton not having retina support so it kinda looks a bit shitty, I am over the moon with this.

pure app boots would be nice...

boot straight into pro tools/ableton/cubase/whatever....

I used to use a mac but went back to pc cause i can upgrade the thing without no problems and cheaply
