Is it even possible to produce a new Aphex Twin album?

The thing which drives me up the wall is the suggestion that he's still producing plenty but just isn't interested in releasing his stuff one way or another. If he had stopped producing, fine. But producing tracks and not releasing it for whatever reason? F@ck that! Not saying there's an obligation, or anything. But there's just plenty people interested and waiting for a release. Which he knows very well. So dropping that 6 albums ready thing in interviews is just borderline sadomasochism.

He'll release sooner or later. If ur theory is true JR then he wouldn't have releases analord or the tuss, Some dude in the aphex speculation on facts thread said that he had a chat with Richard and that he's working on something amazing and isn't going to release it until its complete and sublime. I find this believable.

"Cast the first stone" in the Bible: John 8:7

Jesus faced a mob that was eager to execute a woman caught in adultery. He put a stop to it with a simple challenge: anyone who has no sin in their life should step forward and throw the first stone. That sentence is often cited as a reminder to avoid judging others when there are faults in your own life that need to be addressed.

James 1:6

But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.

hmmmmm if he cares about money then he could be doing something very smart & just increasing anticipation that when he does release something, fans will go ape, the cash counter will be clickin & the cash cow will be milkin, although i think his fan base has probably declined a lot with the lack of action. it will just be a group of old guys (us) with fedoras & walking sticks.... it remains to be seen whether he's still got the midas touch... if he's lost it then why release?

There's plenty of money to be made off the old guy crowd. They just prefer their music to be played at wineries rather than a venue that young people can be found at. 'uhhh young people.

He's just decided to stop releasing music. It happened with a lot of people in the past. Bob Dylan took a break from 1990 to 1997 without releasing an album with original material. The Tuss was in mid 2007, that's almost 7 years ago nowadays. A lot of classical artists too major breaks in back in the days and wrote nothing for decades.

Is he creating? Probably. Why doesn't he want to release his compositions? Nobody knows for sure. He still seems to be liking the musical aspect of it, from all the DJing he is doing. That is some sort of pseudo-composition.

People forget that the owner of Warp said he has a contract and that BoC would come out sooner.

Well, he was right about that (eventually), so there is some truth to what he said... But, Richard doesn't have any album planned to be released, unlike BOC that announced a new album would be coming out (and 8 years later it did).

It's those first-hand accounts that always throws a wrench into discussions like this - what Richard says one to one vs what he says to the press can at times be night and day, or exactly the same (the honest truth versus telling you what you want to hear). I hope that's the case and we get something epically planned as DrukQs was.

It will be interesting to see how an Aphex Twin release will be handled in the current age of digital music distribution - I suppose there will finally be an official Twitter, Facebook, etc. for the album's release, streaming, mini-site, SoundCloud, etc. - Autechre have been really good about embracing that aspect of modern digital music I think. Considering how well music videos were used to promote his prior big releases (Come To Daddy, Windowlicker, and somewhat with DrukQs), it will be interesting to see if they do any 'viral' marketing for any anticipated release.

That's certainly true - and he's always creating - what differs with Richard is he seems content to create and never release anything since he creates it for himself. It just baffles me he wouldn't want to share his creations with everyone else (and considering the number of vehicles he has available to him these days), considering how easy it is.

Most of the negative reviews for drukqs are about how it sounds like it's 2 different albums, it's too long, it's just a bunch of random songs, piano songs don't fit between the drillnbass madness etc. when his intention was that you simply ripped the tracks you liked and listened to the songs you liked in the order you wanted (as he said in some interview). So if he does that again with his next album I hope he gets that point across more clearly

This doesn't have anything to do with this discussion but I was reading old drukqs reviews and needed to vent

Where did he say that? I never got that impression talking to Richard at the time he was about to release DrukQs (and trust me, I know better than anyone his feelings about DrukQs) :emotawesomepm9:

The part about listening to the tracks in the order you feel like I made it up, but I guess it's implied:

    Quote

Q: So the only real reason why you are putting an album out now is because you wanted to officially release as many tracks as possible before they get around unofficially?

A: Yeah, pretty much. It’s kind of like an mp3 album really. I don’t reckon that many people will do it, but the way I listen to music now is that I buy a CD, put it on the computer and just take the tracks I want anyway. I’d hope that people would to the same with this CD.
