^ no Tuss material sounds like Squarepusher's production to me.

I don't mean to be a caustic window prat but these threads are poison. they are unhealthy for the continued development of a person's musical tastes. this becomes more apparent when you're away for a while and then come back to the same old discussions pondering where Richard is at and what he's gonna do next, if anything. he'll do whatever he'll do, just move on already and enjoy the shitloads of good new music out there. 2013 was the best year in ages, just go and get lost in the new stuff already. or go backwards in time and unearth the roots of your favourite musical styles. there's no excuse not to, really.

the sooner one leaves their little IDM cubbyhole behind, the better.

Better to open ones mind, innit?

I agree with you wholeheartedly. There are tons of incredible artists out there. It's weird to dwell on one.

I listen to a whole range of new shit, I just want to get a juicy discussion going about where Aphex is at..

Also.. Squarepusher being involved in The Tuss? Maybe.. but I think it has Aphex' personality written all over it, the composition and quirkiness sit right next to Drukqs.. If it is a collaboration then it's 85% Richard.

The Tuss is certainly no-one other than Richard D James, for anyone that has ears.

When did I ever say it was a "good" example?

I just said it was an obvious and CLEAR example so hop off my dick

Edit: also I think I was pretty clear when I said a lot of his breaks are just derivative, you know, just like basically 100% of any artist out there. Maybe in your old age you struggled to read that or you're developing Alzheimers and already forgot, I don't know.

O gosh, never knew that aphex was into making middle of the road electronic music.

I heard DJ Aphex made this mix as well, btw:

If you spent half as much time on your music as you do on watmm being a flippant arrogant cunt maybe you'd be worth listening to.

Maybe you're illiterate or something or you're incapable of rational thought. I said I haven't listened to Aphex' early work as it is, generally not very good. Some of it is incredible, yes. Most of it, is shitty. How is it unreasonable to dismiss some fake q-chastic bs as shitty early aphex twin to someone not interested in that time period of "music"?

90% of his released work in the early 90s is "middle of the road".

It's not like everything the guy touches is gold. A lot of the analogue bubblebath tracks are shit. A lot of his early EPs are shit.

A lot of his music is incredible.

If there was a middle of the road in the early 90s (late 80s), it was big fun

Of course it's possible for him to push out an album and slap Aphex Twin on it. Whether or not it's up to the standards that people have for Aphex Twin (I don't put him up on that much of a pedestal, personally) is completely subjective.

And do you really want him to come back (as Aphex Twin)? Fans of The Knife's Silent Shout waited for a follow-up and got fucking Shaking the Habitual.

Yeah, that's another great example. I can't think of anybody I've truly loved who have gone on such a long hiatus and actually returned with something that fulfilled the expectations of time.

I like what the Knife are doing indeed & i do like some tracks on Tomorrow harvest but, to put it simply, i didnt expect Boards of Canada to stay in comfort zone after so long. There's this interesting article on Fact magazine about it (on 2013 records & come back records, Bowie/BoC/my bloody valentine) & what i regret is that i associate Boards of Canada with something fresh, playful and mysterious. Something that was kinda rare in electronic music when they released their first records. 18 years later, they're still here but releasing almost the same kind of music (& the first time was way better time), i would not expected to do that, to become elderstate men of electronica. Say what you want about Oval new records but at least, he's trying something different. Same with 0PN, he's pretty focused on trying something new. So, i'm curious about Aphex current tracks. He's wise enough not to repeat himself (and that Metz track is dope!).

I'm not worried about the fact that any Joe blow can get his hands on neat machines and programs to make clicks and whistles like RDJ. People have been playing guitars for ages but now and then something unique and amazing is still written. Technology and ease of access will never be able to compete with creativity.

Also, talking about the man's personal life (divorce etc.) issues is cringe worthy. Let the strange ginger man do his thing and be grateful for what he decides to share.

Exactly.

When I first heard ON in 94, it blew my fucking mind. I quickly gobbled up everything I could find by him and all of it was leaps an bounds ahead of anything anyone else was doing at the time.

I highly doubt anyone who heard RDJ's early 90s stuff, when it was new, would say it was shit.

Even by today's standards, I still completely disagree.

Keep smoking crack, StephenG.
