I'm pretty sure the mp3 player story was in regards to 26 mixes for cash, wasn't it? That's why he named it 26 mixes for cash, he quickly released it in case someone decided to leak it...

=/

Apparently Richard had nothing to do with 26 mixes, that was all Warp

the story was in relation to drukqs

:cerious:huh. I must have crossed a couple wires in my brain or something.

I always thought that was about 26 mixes.

Nah, you're a wee child who can't wait for official release. Embarrassing. Shove your privilege.

.mp3 player story is silly. The odds of someone picking it up and actually knowing who Aphex is and appreciating his music is next to nothing. It would have gone something like this:

"Sweet! An .mp3 player!"

"WTF is this godawful racket!?"

*Formats .mp3 player*

*Transfers Rick Astley playlist to it*

Actually one day I lost my mp3 player with lots of avantgarde, idm, abient and that kind of music... I hope the person who found it is happy with it :')

Yeah, he said he had like 70 unreleased Aphex tracks on it, plus 200 or whatever unreleased Squarepusher tracks.

That is no lol. That is sad truth.

this is why if we elect a new aphex twin, one of the rules is that they have to lie at least like 5 lies per interview, minimum

Hi Monoid! Can you be our new Aphex Twin? Just post something regularly and you'd have a bunch of geeky followers.

Do we really buy the story that DruqkS was released because he left an MP3 player on a first class flight? That was 2001, what was the average player capacity back then?

I would agree with Joyrex's theory about retirement except for 2 things, first is the weird labeless period we've entered with Rephlex, I'm sorry but there is some financial reasoning in there somewhere, along with whatever artistic divaness is going on. Second, I still believe Richard is using YouTube to anonymously release tracks to the public. His personality type (and I'm only speculating here) is too sociopathic not to want to fuck with people. He enjoys it too much, Richard seemed like a master manipulator, pranking his fans, journalists, even Rob & Steve had no idea when he would drop shit in their lap.

I'm not insulting this man by any means with my theories, I'm sure being him is not easy, a full plate professionally and apparently personal drama to boot.

We all came back to the BOC fold after a longer hiatus (well most of us anyway) so give Rich a few more years before you write him off. I could see more unreleased digital tracks ala the Analord Xmas 2009 surprise. The line between official tracks / and unreleased for him is almost negligible, not like other acts that mine their worst shit years later for a royalty check.

I still believe in bees.

(wow that dated me)

No, that was a blatant lie told to journos a la typical Richard lying to journos to get them off his back/spread the Aphex Twin legend.

RE: WARP and their artists - they all pretty much operate like that - WARP is pretty hands-off when it comes to their artists and when they should release stuff.

I would be really surprised if Richard has put out anything online - again, he does the music for himself - nobody else.

I think the move out to the country was to get away from the public - too many run-ins with fans in London.

By that I mean.. Aphex Twin music has always been unconventional and even innovative, is it really possible to be original anymore? There's no denying Aphex' influence over the music world, and what with the size of the market due to Youtube, Soundcloud etc.. It's difficult to make anything without somebody saying "Oh that sounds like x" is it possible to make something truly mindblowing? It looks like Richard is most likely struggling to make that so, and that he saw this coming a long time ago.. Analord deliberately follows certain rules and conventions, Drukqs was inspired by early 20th century experimental composition techniques.

He no longer has the production edge over the rest of the music community like he did in the late 90s/early 2000s either, you can download VST patches which mimic the exact sounds which took him weeks to perfect, music production has progressed rapidly in recent times and I think Aphex has been hit harder than anyone else.

Seems like a narrow-minded viewpoint. When Aphex first appeared he sounded new, if you look at every release it stands on its own, unique. Seems plausible that his next release stands on its own too ready to influence the masses. Aphex probably got bored. Just because more people make electronic music now than ever before. Aphex is Aphex, bound to surprise us, IF and when something new finally does arrive. Come on Aphex!

I'm hardly a closed minded nun. Remember, I'm on a fucking IDM forum.... an IDM forum.. Think about that for a second before claiming people are closed minded nuns.

I think if we were to release a new album epheks Twin bands such as dance, I was going to be my friend, if you want to think of it, it makes me happy.
