why is intelligence (IQ, literacy) valuable? can't simple people sometimes make the world a better place to live in? can't clever people fuck things up?

 

sympathy? if by sympathy you mean caring about and understanding the feelings of others, these do not necessarily prevent you from mistreating them. can't cold, indifferent people do good things and treat people well?
