I am sure if the other test pressings came out OK, this one did too - plus, I am sure there would be a contingency plan put into motion for that - after all, this is the label we're dealing with here - not as if we don't have resources available to us.

Sorry if its been brought up before... but why rip this from the vinyl? if grant & richard are involved in this and will be shipping the record off from the seller to be ripped, why not send the DAT master or whatever it was mastered on instead? (unless of course its missing/lost) and send the record to Joyrex to get it up on ebay sooner rather than later?

any chance these could be tracks from that album? Can't wait to get my download :)

I've been thinking maybe this will happen and we never find out. (What made me think that is what you said, and also that the name & price of the digital transfer service is not currently mentioned...)

the other conspiracy theory i'm with is that it's one of the core people selling it, for instance mike p (who i think sold some other stuff on ebay recently?).

The conditions of the agreement were to rip it from the vinyl - most likely, the DAT is either not available, or when the test pressing was struck, the source(s) were compiled then, and do not exist as a cohesive, singular DAT (speculation on my part).

The record will not go up on Ebay before the Kickstarter ends and is funded.

Maybe you could ask Grant or Richard about that? That would end all speculation and maybe offering a "lossless" source too. Interestingly I came across the album "Insect And Individual Silenced" by Nurse With Wound recently, which was sourced from LP after the masterfiles were destroyed back after release 1981. That rip sounds awesome- no crackle nor surface noise can be heard on the new editions.

I guess the best would be to clean the record very carefully (there should be options out there, in Hamburg is one professional record cleaner at least) and reduce the amount of any surface/crackle noise to zero.

Wonder if a good rip could be made by D&M Berlin??

Don't worry - Richard, Rephlex and myself are NOT going to allow a sub-par sounding rip out there - it will be the best possible quality! I understand everyone's concerns, but rest assured when I say it will sound the best it possibly can.

Funny how the pages of this thread seem to be keeping in line with the Kickstarter numbers - 48 pages, almost 48K

much rather a great vinyl rip than some 90's DAT. i realize its the source, but ill bet you it wont sound better
