The epicenter for the 2018 seismic anomaly was just off of the coast of Mayotte, a small archipelago in the Indian Ocean presided over by France. The event consisted of long pulses of extremely low frequency waves far below the threshold of human perception but quite powerful enough to register on seismological instruments.  The pulses did not appear to be caused by earthquakes – at least any type of earthquake we know of – yet also did not appear to be man made.

To add to the mystery of the 2018 seismic anomaly, geologists have found that Mayotte is sinking by as much as 9 mm or .35 inches a month as well as drifting eastward at twice that rate.

They go on to give a reasonable explanation but I'm just going to pretend it's the creatures living in the center of this hollow earth finally making their move to overtake the surface.

The 40-year-old man last week filed a lawsuit in federal court in Michigan, where he moved in with his parents in 2016 following a divorce.

He says that when he moved out 10 months later, they delivered his things to his new home in Muncie, Indiana, but that his 12 boxes of pornographic films and magazines were missing.

With such a prolific collection, how did he manage to end up divorced?

A gang leader in Brazil whose failed bid to escape jail disguised as his 19-year-old daughter made international headlines has been found dead in his cell.

Officials found Clauvino da Silva dead on Tuesday, three days after he was placed in isolation in a high security prison when his escape attempt was prevented. Officials said he died of an apparent suicide, Brazil's Globo reported.

Rio de Janeiro's state secretary of prison administration had released photos showing da Silva wearing a silicone mask, a long wig, glasses, jeans, and a pink T-shirt with donuts on it after being caught out.

His escape attempt was thwarted when prison guards saw him acting nervously, the Associated Press reported.

In a video also released by prison administration officials, da Silva takes off the disguise and some of the clothes before saying his real name.

The 42-year-old, also known as Baixinho, or “Shorty,” was serving a 73-year sentence for drug trafficking.

He previously escaped Rio’s Gericinó prison in 2013, Globo reported, after fleeing the jail through the sewer. This time the plan was just to walk out through the main door and leave his daughter in his cell.

Da Silva's daughter, Ana Gabriele Silva is among nine visitors suspected to have assisted in the escape attempt.

A blow from some blunt object had also broken several of the bones of his face. But none of those things would have been immediately fatal, and that was the point.

Despite his small stature, he sported an extra thoracic vertebra and an extra rib on each side. The unusual thickening of his frontal bone (the forehead) suggests that he probably had a hormonal disorder. In the sutures between the bones of his skull, archaeologists found several small bits of what are called Wormian bones, which often show up along with a congenital disease.

Australian water rats have learned how to kill cane toads, eat their hearts and carve out their organs with “surgical precision”.

“All carcasses had an incision in the chest area, measuring [on average] 10.8mm vertically and 12.2mm horizontally. There was no evidence of bites to the head or body of the partially consumed toads. Rather, the rats appeared to hold the toad on its back and then incise the thoracic cavity to consume organs while the toad was still alive.”

The researchers hypothesise that the rats either learned from scratch – by figuring out which parts of the toad made them sick – or already had previous experience from eating Australian native toxic frogs.
