Apple to buy Beats Electronics/Music, Dr Dre becomes worth $800m

Initially i thought that this was a pump and dump scam. But i guess given that the current team are clueless yes men that were promoted on their arse kissing skills it left the company rudderless and floundering (i mean how long till they put out a phone with the modern standard screen size, they're losing the next generation of customers by not offering variety and choice). So from that article it's seems like that they need some qualified snake oil salesman on the board again, something that they've sorely been lacking since Jobs' passing. Lets hope that they made the wrong decision and the slide continues.

Oh yeah and the stuff about how HTC might have been sold short and apple buying beats for the technologists and their streaming service blah dee blah, why did i enter this thread, surely it wasn't just to antagonize apple fans, surely i'm not that shallow.

a dear friend of mine once sold his senn HD-280s for the "new" beats when they first came out. I gave them the gantz graf test and lol I was so shocked at how bad they were i didn't have the heart to tell him

If Apple bought them to bolster iTunes Radio in lieu for Beats streaming service, they are really dumb, considering hiring the talent would have been far cheaper.

Then again, perhaps they plan on rebranding the headphones as Apple Beats or Beats by Apple and actually improve the contents?

I would LOVE to see how much it costs to make a pair of Beats vs. the retail price.

Just seems like Apple is a step behind rather than ahead these days.

Have never 'auditioned' a pair of Beats myself. I have heard that they colour the lower midrange/bass end heavily. Judging by the standard Beats-wearing demographic it would likely be in the company's best interest to have their headphones do just that as loads of high-school/college guys seem to fetishise muddy walls of bass that drown out everything.

the beats bass isn't even good in a fartily overblown, tasteless, V-TEC just kicked in yo, kind of way, IIRC

Yeah that's true, i didn't think about that, the bose speakers in their cars crowd. Of course in the case of the beats it's just an equalizer trick isn't it not actually in the physical design, which is why it's so odd that people are buying these waster space fillers. But when you think that it's bro's and their ho's, it's not so hard to understand the phenomenon.

I don't mind that their mediocre headphones are super popular. That's just a byproduct of the marketing and seeing celebrities and professional athletes seen wearing them everywhere. What brings me pain is when I see a guy who clearly shouldn't be spending 300 dollars on a pair of headphones looking at them in stores, or a teenager who probably hounded his/her hard-working parents for the money to get them.

I think the headphones will be further appleified and then Dr. Dre will get an apple tatooed on his face with lightning bolts shooting out of it as part of the deal.

Supposedly they are going to announce the deal any day now... hopefully with some reasoning behind it that makes sense.

Horribly overpriced products marketed to people who value design over function? I don't know how Apple would want to be associated with the Beats brand
