Oh god, I didn't even think about them potentially putting "Beats Audio" tech in Macs. That would pretty much alienate all of the producers who swear by them. Can't even imagine how that would gel with something like Logic.

My daughter's HP laptop has Beats audio - it doesn't sound bad, but who listens to anything through their laptop speakers or phone speakers, anyways?

Pretty most everyone - us folks are definitely in the minority !

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

the issue with the mobile phones that have Beats Audio on them is that the Beats EQ curve is applied to all outputs...including the headphone jack. Same with the computers that have it imposed on them too.

I weep for the future. Audio perfection will wind up a 128kbps Mp3.

or we could remain optimistic and say they may heavily rework the engineering side of it and were just in it for some additional brand recognition

I sure as hell hope so - perhaps they are buying it more for the brand than anything else. Some rumours were they bought it for the streaming side of things, but Spotify and most everyone else kicks Beats ass when it comes to streaming services.

Oh, I did not know that. I don't think Apple would be stupid as to cut out a key segment of their professional customer base.

Though saying that, didn't this happen? (I've not actually seen one in real life so don't know if the case ended up changing: all our work Macbook Pros are either the 2012 model or have migrated to PC Avid suites)

I'm guessing the home market is where Apple are heading, leaving PC world for businesses etc.

Any products that are overpriced due to how sexy they are will be acquired by Apple from here on out. Apple champagne, apple luxury automobiles, apple yachts, apple cocaine, apple cinnamon Cheerios.

I thnk if anything, there'll be a 'Beats' EQ preset, at least on the iphone. Anyway, there are always external soundcards.

I imagine them putting the beats audio shit in their ipods/iphones - in which case this would be the last iPhone i own. I can't see them putting it in the macbook pros....maybe the macbook air?

The other rumor is that there will be ‘HD’ downloads for iTunes. 96kHz and the like. So if anything I imagine Apple will swing the way of overblown audiophile stupidity, not lowest-common-denominator BEATS FAT BASS EQ. So that’s good. Ish.

I dunno. Things are weird with companies as big as Apple. It may simply make sense for them to buy Beats for the name only, as asinine as that sounds.

Also, as far as I’ve read, this deal is not officially announced yet. Some people think it’s not gonna happen.

I actually listened to some Beats headphones today, and while they weren't great, they also weren't as bad as everyone's saying in this thread. Certainly not worth as much as they're currently priced, but they are decent in terms of comfort and build quality. If it means that Apple earphones will increase in quality, then that might be a good thing. I'd still use third party headphones, but they'd be an acceptable backup pair.

Yeah if I had All The Money I’d get some of those super-expensive Beats Executive cans for my commute. I’m sure they aren’t the greatest sound quality ever, but the build quality was really impressive. Giant fuck-off aluminum, if I recall. Of course they are like 200% more expensive than they should be, but hey…

Sol Republic Master Tracks headphones are the same build quality, but totally interchangeable/modular parts and much better sound. Strangely, I haven't seen any non-'fashion' headphones that are as comfortable with the same level of portability.

$3.2 billion for some shitty headphone company?! The tech industry is such a bubble and it will be glorious when it bursts.

the biggest illusion is yourself

They might be testing the public's reaction or there will be some kind of surprise when they announce it. Our expectations are low and we are being softened for the kill. Soon, babies will be born with Apple logos tattooed on their heads already and we'll wonder how it happened. Chilling stuff, really.
