They certainly seem to be.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Time to get this thread back on track with a testosteron filled review that matches the movie in terms of greatness.

I did not like the movie. I'm disappointed in you, WATMM, yet again.

I don't remember who asked in the thread, but NO, it's not a good movie if you're a bitter jaded old fuck.

I mean some things are even done right. A lot of attention to detail that pop movies today just don't bother with. And the physicality of everything "action" is really strong, that's a definite plus.

Still, it's not really a movie. It's a two hour chase sequence, stuffed with every silly prop and mask they could come up with. Why is this advertised as a movie? I expected a movie, but got this fantasy action sequence instead. It doesn't even look good, the color grading, it's just as bad as the rest of crap pop flicks today. The grit? No, I didn't notice any. Actually, I was really missing anything gritty, filthy, nasty. You should have things like that in a postapocalyptic movie, in a Mad Max movie.

But the main thing that's missing is characters. Max is the worst. Zero backstory, zero depth, he's not a character at all! And Tom Hardy is a really bad choice. Furiosa was just a tiny bit less shallow, still totally not there for me.

I'm not really into this whole film theory thing, but I'd say you have to relate to some character(s) to be invested in movie, to feel involved. To care about what's going on. I don't feel this in most flicks today and I know similarly shallow, cheap, trashy and cheesy ones from 30 years ago had it.

Jaded, I know. And old probably. Living in the past. A sad old geezer.

Some of you don't seem understand the concept of some "stupid" ol' popocorn fun.

Try to live a little sometimes, it's not going to kill you.

It's Mad Max, if you went to it expecting a character-based film then your expectations were misjudged.

"They're about guns, lasers, robots with laser guns in space. Monsters from the future. Explosions. Sylvester Stallone doing a backflip on top of a spike while Robocop carries a ghost up a mountain. Bombs and swords and that... IDM is awesome."

I'm pretty sure whiney MRA types have opinions on most anything involving a woman being in a positive light... and I've certainly seen more articles about people complaining than the actual complaining itself.

I didnt even know there was such a thing as MRI or what it is exactly they have to be angry about but shit if theyre causing a stink over a mad max movie about cars and explosions and action then surely they dont have an aweful lot to really be upset over??

No, that's the thing, the first Mad Max is a great psychological thriller and the second one is still very deep in terms of characters, compared to the new one.

I think you're not reading between the lines enough with this new one.

I thought the characters were actually really fleshed out, but they drop you "in media res" and flesh out their backstories through that old "show, don't tell" idea. Yeah there's no 10 minute scene in the middle where Max & Furiosa exchange stories around the campfire of their pasts, complete with slow mo flashbacks, but I liked that it's pretty much devoid of cinematic tropes like that.

Me too. Didn't like it that much, I also felt Max was a bit shity and couldn't relate and didn't give a fuck whatever happened. Actually, as the whole premise of the film was to get the fuck away from someplace terrible (which wasn't terrible enough, as those ladies weren't exactly traumatized, to me they looked normal), then going back, kicking ass in between, I didn't care what would happen and who would win and kinda hoped it would all turn out bad somehow. Also, you could name this thing differently than Mad Max, as it's not that much about max, he's just supporting the thing, and he's not really that mad, that mental shit he's visualizing isn't convincing enough for me.

I'm not in love with previous Mad Maxes, but they held me in there, I cared, not in this one.

www.petergaber.com is where I keep my paintings. I used to have a kinky tumblr, but it exploded.
