Mad Max: Fury Road

Recommended Posts

I'm hoping there isn't another Mad Max film actually.

George Miller is 70 something now so there is maybe not so much time left and I would not be at all interested in seeing a film that didn't have his own particular vision. He has directed all the previous movies and that particular universe belongs to him alone.

I guess follow-ups are inevitable if the cash registers are ringing. No doubt, greedy studio-execs are already asking him for something else. That's a shame because one of the reasons I think this film works is that it had a fairly long gestation period and Miller had literally decades to come up with new ideas. That's not going to happen if he turns in a follow-up movie two years down the road.

I just wanna say how fucking cool it is that one of the most best action films of the last 15 years has been created by a man who is 70, while his younger counterparts continue to pump out bland superhero shite.

very sad that he never ended up staying with the Justice League movie. Originally he was working on a CGI animated feature length film that later turned into a live action one. I guess it makes more sense for studios to hire directors which are just totally acquiescent to the churn machine and do everything by the numbers. Avengers Age of Ultron was the polar opposite of how a properly staged action movie should look, every single staged shot looked almost halfway improvised to me with the mindset of "oh well we can cgi or composite that in later". Even Joss Whedon admitted when they first started shooting Scarlett Witch he didn't even plan out what her powers were supposed to look like or do, it's like what the fuck? how can so many millions of dollars be used with such pisspoor planning answer: 'fix' it in post

How incredibly violent is it? I was thinking about taking my 13 y/o kid along.

Yeah, I'm elderly.

It has a lot of implied off-screen violence, but it's kind of brutal anyway, not much graphically but it leaves much to the imagination - if that makes any sense. It deserves a R-rating though.

But at the age 13, I think kids in that age should be able to handle it, I'm not a fan over overprotecting kids anyway. But there's a limit of course - I think this is too "cartoony" to disturb a child, but it still might be a bit unpleasant in areas for a kid (but I'm really not sure I'm the right one to assess it though - little experience with kids).

I dunno, have you seen Babe: Pig in The City? Miller's sequel to Fury Road could be the darkest movie of all time. Edited by baph

Pig in the City is fucking awesome. I know you were joking about it being dark but it is probably one of the darkest kids movies i've seen in the last 20 years that reminds me of good kids movies from the 80s.

Thanks Npoess, think I might bring him. Heck, I watched uncut vhs bootlegs of road warrior, terminator and robocop back when I was his age. He deserves some decent action after all the half assed marvel films he's been watching.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Compared to Robocop, it's nothing.

And I think a lot of grew with up some of the 80's/90's actions movies like that, and haven't turned out the be complete psychopaths (only a bit ).

The war boys had tumors and blood poisoning from radiation right? Max was a supporting character in his own movie. I think he left at the end to go find his car, the last vestige he has of the old world, and his family. Great action flick. Guitar guy got laughs every time.

whats the homo eroticism vibe like this time round, is it a Road Warrior/Original Mad Max 8/10 level? Or is it more like 2nd tier BDSM quasi homo eroticism master blaster/thunderdome esque

Just got back from watching this, seeing with the dynamic motion seats was a great choice...

It's a Mad Max movie, obviously nothing too deep plot-wise, in fact there really isn't a whole lot of dialogue throughout the movie... But it's a good action flick, and definitely a fun watch. The driving sequences were pretty awesome, a lot of those stunts were pretty insane. Worth seeing in theatres I'd say.

Is this film still good if you're a jaded old miserable fuck or is everyone that's said they enjoyed it in their early-mid 20s?

The good news is that it's a great film for people who like fun regardless of their age. The bad news is that you'll probably never enjoy anything again and should just sit in a dark basement complaining on the internet for the rest of your life.

so fuuucking good. I thought it was going to be guaranteed entertainment but I had no idea it was going to be quite that ridiculous and over the top. Its like George Miller took all the quirky characters, the weirdness of all 3 Mad Max movies, blended them together and made something beautiful. The whole opening scene with the deformed dwarf in the chair and the son of the main bad guy brought such a big smile to my face. The trailer does not do this movie justice, it makes it seem like a straight forward 'serious' 'hard' action movie but its not at all, it's a lot more of a comedy. There were moments were I was laughing hysterically in the theatre too loud when nobody else was

Just saw this as well. Thoroughly enjoyed. For context I'm a jaded guy in his mid thirties and I enjoyed every minute of it. Just pure balls out B movie fun. Some of the flashbacks and camera work reminded me of classic Sam Raime. Looking forward to whatever else George Miller cooks up.

Saw it last night with a few mates. They had no idea what I was getting them into. One of 'm thought it was a horror gore type movie. I was the only one who saw the original movies.

In short: We all loved it, completely over the top, fun and creative. And it seemed really fast-paced, as if a lot of shots were played faster than recorded. I have nothing useful to say about the new Max, as he himself had almost nothing to say in the entire movie, and that was fine by me. No sappy bullshit, just a great ride with full-on action (coming from someone who's really not a fan of action movies). During one scene it felt like it was just giving the finger to Michael Bay.

Best one out of four although it wouldn't be fair at all to make that comparison. Anyway, I wouldn't mind a pre/sequel or two from this reboot.

this is actually a point worth mentioning - Max's character really takes a backseat in this film, and that's just fine. it's more about the atmosphere, and the world. You could've taken out the Mad Max character and it still would've been a brilliant film. I think that's part of what makes this film so successful, because it doesn't lean too heavily on the character but instead relies on the world. And it's such a rich world, that it's bound to succeed.

Yeh, definitely. My mates still weren't sure who to root for when the movie paused at 60% in or so. No idea who Mad Max was or if he was a good or bad guy, or any backstory for that matter (except the little bits I've hastily told them in advance). It didn't really bother them at all.

Miller just took the best elements out of the original movies and took whatever worked best, not really caring about the expected character development or storytelling. You can just tell he had a shitload of fun revisiting that world.
