Losing the 'one' in tracks and knowing it

When the electric piano chord comes in at 4:07 my mind automatically reverts that to '1' even though it's actually '3'. Then it doesn't sync with the bassline and I get a headache. Took my years to work out what was even going on.

All right, despite me writing some sincere cosmic shit, I will average that post with a more down to da place level relevant post with a ditty I wrote for an xlt post in 2010 (or before), where I wanted to describe how I felt at the moment (thread relevant):

I love/hate when this happens. And it always happens for me on some tracks.

one of my favourite things is hearing a breakdown on a track in a club and the bassline twists and turns and you think your still on the one, then bam big old kick rams down your face changing the bassline totally so much so that i think im cool and try do a dance move (probably cause i actually knew the 1 the whole time) and spill some of my precious beer

It's easy to lose the 1 mid way through S950tx16wasr10_(Earth_Portal_Mix) and things can get really odd from there on but if you can stay with it, it's amazing.

i always lose the one when i'm listening to jet li's music, specifically the track Standoff feat. Keanu.

Oops I listened to it... and it's straight 4.

Just b/c a track has rhythmically complex or highly syncopated elements to it doesn't necessarily mean it's hard to find/keep the 1.

Great thread, I mentioned this in the Avalon 303 thread about not hearing the guys sequence at his 1, the seq starts at step 13 for me.

Really interesting thing and it happens quite a bit making sequences but I love it when it's intentional. I'll upload a sample of an old track I made which does this but I love it for it. Pity the track is shit though.

Bass seems on the one but when beat kicks bass is on the back.

That happened to me when Richard mixed Acrid Avid Jam Shred in at ATP LA 2002. It was mixing in and I was totally off. It was really rad. I thought for a while it was some fucked up version of it, but then I finally got on to the 1. Still amazing! I have a recording of it and haven't been able to reproduce the effect for myself yet.

there are some mint interviews with Coldcut about the rhythm blending on their infamous Journey By DJ mix, where the sheer graft of tempo selection n mixing was gone into on a truly specky level......funny as fuck too in that it illustrates just how close the opportunities for each mix going out of time were, the sheer terror n fun of it all,,, still 1 of the greatest mixes in the history of blending records constructed

It happens a lot to me when I cant hear the bass in a track, poor speakers or being outside whatever.

But I wish it could last longer, because you actually hear a track in a completely different light. My brain automatically corrects once I can hear the "one". But for a few seconds you hear a track and it's completely different to how your brain imagines it. Kind of gives you an insight on how people can view tracks in a very different way.

The 3:35 mark is one of my favorite moments in music. Is this a proper example? I might be mistaken.
